What is Brown’s early decision rate without the automatic acceptances from athletics, etc? I believe the overall hovers approximately 20%.

Would applying ED as a non competitive applicant for PLME affect the chances of ED Brown college? My goal is Brown college while PLME is also great if I get in.

I definitely wish to look into PLME but I do not know if it is worth spending a great portion of my time writing the PLME essays but be almost automatically denied (from stats / lack of hospital experience, etc) than if I just focus all of my time on the regular brown essays? Would the student be accepted at Brown college first and then considered for PLME?

This is not a published figure. The last time I heard the head of admissions discuss this, he said the rate without athletes approaches the RD rate. I’ve run some numbers (just by looking at the number of freshmen on all the sports teams), and would guess that the ED acceptance rate for the unhooked definitely drops, but not as low as the RD rate.

Make sure you check the box correctly, saying that you would attend Brown even if not accepted PLME. I don’t think a PLME denial has anything to do with your Brown acceptance. I think your application goes to the doctors first, but I’m really not sure and the procedure is always subject to change.

In any accelerated medical programs, the application(s) packet is first processed by Undergrad school (initial weedout) and then handed off to its Med school to make a decision who to call for Interviews and complete selection process thru interviews.

As fireandrain suggested the box should be checked carefully indicating your intent.

Thanks, and I do plan on making sure to check the appropriate box.

Just curious if anyone knows or wishes to guess, would the PLME essays ever be considered for admission to the college (they would get to know you a bit more through the PLME essays along with the overall application), or do they tend to ignore the essays completely for admission under Brown college?

3lite: no. The Brown admissions people do not see the PLME essays at all. If you get into Brown, then they send the entire packet off to the PLME admissions for that decision.
