For those of you applying this year (class of 2014), where can I find ‘09-‘10 Brown supplementary? I’ve been looking for it everywhere, but I just couldn’t find it. All I could find was 08’-09’'s supplementary.

where can I find it? Or did they not release it yet? :S

Hasn’t been released yet. Wait until July.

what was the essay topic for this year’s application?

how many additional essays are therE?

The Common App essay has six possible topics, the last of which is “Topic of Your Choice.” So you can write 500 words on whatever you think will make a compelling essay.

The Brown supplement consists of three additional writing pieces: a few sentences on how you heard about Brown, about 900 characters (I believe) on “Why Brown,” and a second 500-word essay on an “academic experience,” either inside or outside the classroom (they offered a few examples of what you could write about; I wrote about a history research paper).

If you are applying PLME, there are some additional essays. Certain science majors (Physics, Geology, etc.) also require 500 words on your interest and experience in your chosen field.

Are the essay questions on the supplement likely to change?

In addition to the common ap essay, I’m pretty sure these will be there:

Short answer 1: Tell us about the academic areas which interest you most and your reason for applying to Brown.

Short answer 2: Who interested you in Brown (e.g., college counselor, Brown alum, etc.)

There are several additional essays for those interested in chemistry, computer science, engineering and physics that I don’t feel like typing up.

As for the academic influence essay – last year was the first year that topic was used, and the first time an additional essay was required. I’m sure admissions is studying whether that essay was helpful in making decisions and whether that one or a different one should be used. So I would wait for the supplement to be released to work on that.

(There were a couple threads here on CC last fall that discussed in-depth that essay, which you could search for to get more info on that and how people approached it.)

Last year, I think the supplement came out really late - end of August?

Around the 20th, I think.

Are there questions that don’t change and are used every year?

I really hope the academic experience essay stays, I have a great one lined up for that topic!

I see it staying around for a while, as it warrants some really creative ideas. Plus the 500-word limit leaves a lot to be tinkered with.

one-sad-korean, I’ve already answered your question.
