Brown for Pre-med?

Hi,
I am interested in Brown’s PLME 8-year program, and I wanted to know how difficult Brown is if you wanted to go the Pre-Med route. I heard grade inflation goes on in the other Ivy’s. Does it go on in Brown?

Just wondering is it really true that the competition is not so cut-throat?

Organic chemistry at Brown is a killer class. It is incredibly hard, and many incredibly smart kids get low grades and even fail. My sense is that, while Brown students are not competitive with each other and definitely not cut throat, if you are going to encounter any competition at all it will be in the pre-med community.

PLME is a whole different ballgame, of course – but very difficult to get into.

Don’t pick Brown because you think every course is an easy A and therefore you’ll be a shoe-in for med school. I’ll bet that goes for most Ivies – if your goal is to get the highest grades possible for med school admissions, you might want to look at schools other than the Ivies.

as fireandrain says, not cut-throat does not mean easy. When I say no cut-throat competition, I mean that you can approach people for help and they will help you or that you don’t get the feeling that the only way you can succeed is to hope that your classmates fail or that the motivation to study isn’t to outdo your classmates but to actually learn the material for your own sake.
