AP Studio Art 5
AP U.S. History 5 (makes up for my horrible SAT II score)

Courses: Here is where the main problem lies. During freshmen and sophmore year, i slacked off. A LOT. But by junior year, I realized that my lack of motivation and care will not get me far in life (let alone into college) so I really began to work hard and my grades improved exponentially

So, chance me for (gulp)

BROWN

(and yes, i do have safeties which im not posting here - they ARE safeties after all)

SORRY ITS SUCH A LONG READ

So please chance me? I realize that I’m asian, andmy academics aren’t that great , but I’m hoping that my extracurricular and involvement in art balances that out? And in terms of my grades, ive improved it and im continuing to improve it throughout senior year, so would they see my upward trend? I’m not a great standardized test taker - yea, i know. it’s BS, but true. notice the huge difference between the standardized US History SAT II opposed to the AP US History exams - i know, weak excuse. im not writing that, but its true and I’m working really really hard to enahnce my test-taking abilities

*I’m also going to retake my SAT I for regular decision, and i expect to get 2150 (since the writing score was an abhorration of what I usually got on the 16 practice tests i took - i firmly believe that i can score higher on that section)

thanks

it's a toss up...your SAT score, your gpa is "low", youre asian...but you're art could help you, especially if you send it to professors ahead of time and/or talk to them and ask for them to talk with the admissions board if you really do have talent.

I actually think you have a chance. A reach, but nonetheless a chance. Your grades and test scores are a bit lower than the median of Brown, but judging from your awards and EC's, you're really into art--which could be your biggest bonus.

P.S. I'm Asian too. I TOTALLY feel your pain when we have to go against those super-hyper-genius-Einsteinian other Asians out there. Good luck!

An upward trend in grades is good, especially if you or your counselor in a rec can explain the cause of your increased motivation in junior year (it can't be, "aw man, I can't get anywhere being lazy," though).

Everyone has a "chance." You're in the running with the rest of us.

i want to be accepted into that Brown-RISD Dual Degree Program, but i first have to b accepted by Brown and RISD separately

and ill be crushed if i get rejected from brown

Join the club =)

hahahaaa...true dat

oh, screw the "i'm asian and i only have an A- average so i'll never get into college" myth. you are interesting and obviously intelligent, creative, a leader--blah blah blah--all that good stuff, and i think that you make a very strong candidate on the basis of who--not what race--you are. none of us can give you remotely accurate chances, but i'd say you definitely stand a chance.
