I'm not that smart for an asian, but maybe I still got a chance?

Gender: Male
Race: Asian (yup..automtically no based on my grades?)
GPA: 91/100
Rank: Our school does not rank
Extremley Competative High School in NY - Hunter College High School

Exams

SAT I: 2080/2400 [M750, CR660, W670]
SAT II:

Biology -E 700
Chemistry 700
(For US. History, i got 640 and Math IIC 630, but most colleges only regard top 2 although they see all?)

AP Studio Art 5
AP U.S. History 5 (makes up for my horrible SAT II score)

Courses: Here is where the main problem lies. During freshmen and sophmore year, i slacked off. A LOT. But by junior year, I realized that my lack of motivation and care will not get me far in life (let alone into college) so I really began to work hard and my grades improved exponentially

9th Grade: B- average
10th grade: B/B+ average

11th grade (we're only allowed to take 2 electives)
Math honors precalculus - B+/A-
U.S. History - B+/A
AP Chemistry (elective) - A+/A+
Physics (elective - had to take it to take AP Chem) - A-/A
English - B+/B

Senior year courses (maximum classes allowed are 6)
**I received my quarter grades, and our school gives us the option of submitting them to colleges. Can i say, these grades were the best I've ever done in my high school career:

AP AB Calculus (A-)
AP Psychology (A)
AP English Language and Composition (A-)
AP Biology (A+)
Adv. Drawing/Painting (A)
Biology Teaching Internship (A)

So, chance me for (gulp)

WILLIAMS
YALE (SCEA) - Dont worry, i know its a reject (i just hope they defer me!)
BROWN
RISD (safety? They absolutely loved my portfolio at national portfolio day)
WESLEYAN
COLGATE
BOWDOIN
DARTMOUTH
BOSTON COLLEGE
CORNELL - School of Art and Architectural Planning

(and yes, i do have safeties which im not posting here - they ARE safeties after all)

SORRY ITS SUCH A LONG READ

So please chance me? I realize that I'm asian, andmy academics aren't that great , but I'm hoping that my extracurricular and involvement in art balances that out? And in terms of my grades, ive improved it and im continuing to improve it throughout senior year, so would they see my upward trend? I'm not a great standardized test taker - yea, i know. it's BS, but true. notice the huge difference between the standardized US History SAT II opposed to the AP US History exams - i know, weak excuse. im not writing that, but its true and I'm working really really hard to enahnce my test-taking abilities

*I'm also going to retake my SAT I for regular decision, and i expect to get 2150 (since the writing score was an abhorration of what I usually got on the 16 practice tests i took - i firmly believe that i can score higher on that section)

thanks

and if u want, list any other schools for me?

bump 10char

uhm i think you have a VERY high chance.... your profile in general is beautiful... i wish i cud say the same about mine.... :-S
good luck

this constitutes a not-smart asian? lol

well, in comprison to most asians who have GPAs of like...A+

800 on every SAT II and like.. 2300+ on SATs

aka, most asians u meet on this forum

It's a damn good thing I dyed my hair blonde, no one will ever expect that I'm Asian and thus won't criticize me for having such horrible scores!

You're perfectly fine.

Thanks

chances for specific colleges lsted above? (not %, but like reach, target, safety...etc)

You have a slight chance for Cornell. Your GPA is about a 3.6 (I believe). Your test scores are not bad either. Good Luck!

thanks, anyone else? (btw, its the cornell college of art and architectural planning - a hefty bit of their decision lies in your portfolio, which i believe, i have a very strong one)

bump

why are u calling yourself not smart asian. If you consider yourself stupid, maybe most of ppl in the forum are stupid too.

Well, it's because I've seen MANY MANY MANY exceptionally brilliant and amazing posters on this forum, and i guess my perception got a little skewed

still, chances then?

if a 95 is a 4.0 in your school, your GPA is a 3.2

well, in our school, we dont do GPA (we dont submit rankings nor GPAs to college)

bump 10char

This is really pretty, but given the absurd competition from everyone else at Hunter... Plus, colleges don't like the low GPA. What they tell you about "progressively higher = good" is a big lie, GPA is GPA however you look at it. The SAT + GPA is sinker, obv, but...

I'll say in at Cornell (since everyone at Hunter does CAS or CALS), and hope the LACs love you. Don't forget that the what, 50+ people who are SCEA Yale deferreds this year are still in the running for Dartmouth, Brown, Cornell, etc. It's going to be a mediocre year, but best of luck!

wow I so feel your pain about the not-so-perfect Asian thing. Hunter College HS huh? I vaguely remember that silly entrance exam (the HS itself was nice though). Haha, I missed the admission by one point and later on they told me it was because my essay sucked (they gave an example about a fruit or something and said write in a similar fashion about your favorite food; I wrote about pizza). That didn't work out... ANYWAY....

I think you've raised your expectations a bit too high...I've kind of lowered mine in that I don't expect to be accepted to any Ivies and don't even plan to apply to the big ones. Your ECs are amazing (which is something I can't say for myself); you're only lacking academically. Chances:

WILLIAMS - Impossible
YALE (SCEA) - Dont worry, i know its a reject (i just hope they defer me!)
Impossible
BROWN Very High Reach
RISD (safety? They absolutely loved my portfolio at national portfolio day)
Yeah Safety
WESLEYAN Reach (like 30-40%)
COLGATE Match
BOWDOIN Match
DARTMOUTH High Reach
BOSTON COLLEGE High Match
CORNELL - School of Art and Architectural Planning High Reach

Don't you think you should apply to NYU? Good luck though.
