I am submitting an arts supplement in vocal performance to Brown for RD using SlideRoom. The form asks some basic questions about musical background and provides a place to upload audio/video files. I am unsure how to answer one of the questions: “Please describe the most challenging repertoire you have studied and the style of period (i.e. Jazz, Classical, Romantic, etc)”. Should I list specific pieces and their musical period? Should I write an essay? Additionally, I am unsure of how many audio files I should upload. I have one REALLY REALLY strong aria recording that I definitely want to upload (Per pieta, bell’idol mio by Vincenzo Bellini), but I am unsure of whether I should upload another semi-strong recording to show variety (Rejoice Greatly, O Daughter of Zion! by George Friedrich Handel). Thanks in advance for any help!
Two contrasting recordings would be a good idea. I’d just give a list of your repertoire, no need to write an essay. If applicable, you may also want to mention who you’ve studied with and what groups you’ve been part of/performances you’ve given.
