Brown Near You?

They are coming pretty close to me on Tuesday (!!!) and I was wondering, to anyone who has been to an informational session, what are they like? What sorts of people can you meet? And also, what questions did you ask?

We went in DS’s junior year and it was very worthwhile. You’ll get a sense of Brown’s unique personality compared to other selective colleges. Go, if you can!

OF COURSE I am :)

But what sorts of questions did you guys ask?

Our son was in the International Baccalaureate program and taking AP classes, so he asked how those are looked at by Brown. We also asked about financial aid, how much Brown students take advantage of Providence, whether the atmosphere is cooperative or competitive among students, etc. Just listen to the presentations, see what other people ask, and then questions will come to mind depending on your own situation.

Ask questions that are specific to you and not easily found on the website. For example, if you are a dancer, say, “I’ve been dancing for 14 years and wonder what dance opportunities there are on campus for students.” Use this as an opportunity to both say something interesting about yourself and get information.
