in the latest issue of the Brown Newspaper (my sister is a senior and she emails me pertinent articles) they said they have 61 fewer ED applicants for the class of 2012 when they expected to have more. this only means good things for us EDers because smaller pool + probably a higher or at least an equal # of acceptances.

also someone tell me if this makes any sense:

a kid from my school (a complete idiot in terms of common sense, mind you, who is going to Amherst only because of a Lax scholarship) told me that his mom heard from a Brown interviewer and alumni member that they only accepted 3 kids ED from long island, ny. i dont know if you guys are familiar with this area, but its easily one of the most competitive areas in the country in terms of applying to college. my school, for example, sends 25+ yearly atleast to ivies. so i ask you guys, for a place that always sends 20+ kids to brown (long island), could it make any sense that they accept only 3 this year??? i think he confused “total number of kids applying from our high school” , which is 3, with “total # accepted on long island” because 1) i dont think the guy would be told this information to disclose to others and 2) i dont think that they have reached every final decision yet.

IIRC alumni aren't supposed to be notified of decisions this early.

Also, I remember reading earlier that the number of applicants this year for ED is 106% of last year's.. which is interesting. Maybe the "expected" number was even greater?

It sounds like, according to that article, the 6% wasn't an expected increase but an actual increase... do you have the link to the article your sister sent you?

kro, you are talking nonsense. The article that triggy linked to was published weeks ago and reports an increase in applications.

"The Office of Admission received 2,449 applications for early decision this year... Last year the University received 2,316 early decision applications."

Your facts are WAY off.

Also, Division III schools, like Amherst, do not give athletic scholarships. Maybe he lied to you and told you Amherst but meant the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Or, you didn't listen. Or you lied?

Haha, that is hilarious....the part about NY and LI EDer's that get accepted being so little. That's another thing I can put on my list of reasons why I won't get in! =)
