I was wondering whether or not first year students are required to live on campus even if they live close to the University? When I contacted a Brown rep, she told me you had to for 3 years, when I read the application it said for 2 years (which is supposedly a graduation requirement), and when I checked the brown residential life website they said you didn’t even have to apply to live off-campus if you commuted. So who should I believe?

how close is close, dorm life is pretty sweet, and ivy aid is need based, so it seems to me that if you're more than 20 mins from campus you should live in the dorms anyway.

Everyone's required to live in the dorms for 3 years, except if you live nearby and really want to live at home. But really, if you don't live in the dorms, you're missing out on half the college experience. Unless you live within walking distance of campus, you really should live in the dorms.
