Brown-RISD Dual Degree Question!

The information for the program says that applications will be evaluated separately before being judged by a committee for the dual program. I was wondering how independent these evaluations will be, primarily because it will affect my decision to apply for the dual program. My first choice is Brown, far and beyond, but I’ve always had an interest in the fine arts and I’m interested in pursuing it in the future. I know my chances are slim, so I wanted to just go ahead and apply for the dual program to see what happens, but I’m willing to forgo it if it affects my chances at Brown in any negative way. Thoughts? Should I go for it or not, if my priority is to increase my chances at Brown?

You have to be admitted to both schools before the committee looks at it. I highly doubt it would affect your chances negatively.

Ditto. I don’t think applying to this program has any impact on admission decisions.

I actually recall asking at an info session about whether it changed one’s chances - I was hoping they might see dual degree applicants as something special - but it’s pretty much completely separate.

From talking to my friend who’s a dual-degree program participant, she said that basically she applied to both schools, and only once she got into both was she considered for the program. To reiterate what other people have said, it won’t help give you a leg up for Brown.

I’ve been confused about applying, because since the two schools have different deadlines, I’m not sure when I’d find out if I got into both schools, when to submit the dual degree essay, etc. Can anyone help me out on this?
