Hello,
I’m a high school junior thinking about applying to the Brown RISD Dual Degree program. It looks so amazing, but I’ve read the whole handbook online and still can’t picture exactly what each year would be like. If any current dual degree students or others who know about it could describe their schedules I would be soo grateful!
I know freshman year is at RISD for the foundation year, but can dual degree students replace the foundation year RISD liberal arts classes with Brown classes?
In the four years after foundation yr. is there any room for electives outside of the RISD major and Brown concentration requirements? (For example, I want to major in archaeology at Brown and probably painting at RISD but I also want to take language and philosophy classes.)

My daughter is in the 1st year of this amazing program and is both very happy and challenged. I don’t think taking foundations the first year is negotiable because it is so fundamental to it. Students take one class at Brown each semester the first year, then in the second year the majority of classes are at Brown. This year she is living on the RISD campus, next year at Brown. The program is very organic in the sense that students are encouraged to pursue all academic options and the dual degree students have majors in any and all subject from both schools. Both schools are very committed to the program’s success and as such the dd students get priority in many things including scheduling requesting classes.
