did anyone get the brown university letter that invited u to apply for their summer program? i got it and is this a good sign? Thx

I got the letter too

lol, no it really means nothing, almost all summer programs are a scam for money, but they can be quite fun, its just that don't expect anything at all in terms of admissions, fyi i got it too, and so did like everyone else who did somewhat well on the psats, so yea theres the answer to your question =)

haha ya i got it

hahah! i got it too. definitley too expensive for me though. got a bunch of other college crap too in the mail today. only my 2nd day and i'm already tired of it!!!

yea i know it was expensive but I thought since it was from brown that it might actually be worth something. Well anyways, I got governors school to keep me busy this summer :)

now governers school is DEF. WORTH GOING TO, it looks tremendously good on applications, i assume your from jersey icyfire..what part?

What is governor's school?

k summer programs are scams but does receiving a college letter from brown...or other schools mean there's a chance of getting in? note i said chance...not guarantee

yo xindianx, I'm from monmouth county. How bout u? Did you apply to governors school? And if u dont know what governor's school is, its a summer program which is in a particular field. They have science, engineering, arts, etc (i applied to science). Its a one month thing at a college and u dorm there. You take some courses and stuff and you do a big research project. You have to apply to it as a junior and its free. They pick like 3 or 4 people from a county. I'm not sure how it works in other states but this is for NJ.

Icy, what it means is that by your PSAT score (I assume that is what they based it off of), is in the ballpark now for their summer school and possibly for the university. I got something from Stanford when I was a Sophmore and I attended that program (which was way more rigorous than I had intended it to be) and then went to a Columbia program after my Junior year. It is not so much that it has a bearing on your ability to get into the college, but if you do a summer program at a particular school, it says that you show some interest. For me, I applied to Columbia after going to their summer program because I enjoyed it so much. They could probably tell from my app that the summer program helped me make that decision and I wasn't just applying for the hell of it. I was accepted, so I have no idea if it made a big difference at all, but just that it was there.

If you can afford a program at one of the top schools in the nation and it is a prospective school for you as well, take the opportunity to apply and go because it is well worth it.

yeah, I had the lowest psat scores for a junior on here (187) and I got that letter. way too expensive for my likes.
