Does anybody know what Brown's transfer rate is? And if they have a medieval studies major? I'm looking to transfer to a higher level school with this major...I have a 3.7 after my first semester at Univ. of Delaware honors program and a 3.8 GPA from high school. Any info? Thanks.

Used to be over 20%, I think, but last year it dropped horribly down to about 5%. I'm guessing it won't get much better.

You should probably check their website for the major question; I have no idea. Good luck!

Actually it probably will get better. There was some outcry this year about the low number of transfers that were admitted this year, and so I think the administration will take measures to at least partially rectify that.

Another big factor limiting admissions is housing. Last year there was a big housing shortage for transfers. This year, however, there was a housing surplus for transfers! I expect the rate of acceptance to go up.

I'm a brown transfer, in case you didn't notice :)

Hmm so you're someone that has already transferred to Brown and you've heard that they're going to try and bring the transfer acceptance rate back up? That would be awesome news.

how high do you think it might go?

that's really dependent on the number of people that apply. It was usually 20% and that equalled about 200 people each year...so 1000 people usually applied.

I've heard around 60 people were accepted last year - it's not very likely that there was a massive jump in the number of apps, so hopefully they can get it back to around 200 people if we're lucky. Still, the percentage may be lower regardless as it seems the number of transfer applicants to schools is slowly rising.

How accurate and up to date are the USNews stats, because they do not show a major drop off in transfer admits for Brown. I have the '07 edition it says:

Received: 823
Admitted: 202
Enrolled: 135

I would think that data is for the cycle that just passed, in other words, those admitted for fall '06.

That is compared to the '06 edition which I bought over a year ago. It states:

Received: 686
Admitted: 189
Enrolled: 108

Unless the data reported is over a year old for each edition, it does not appear the admissions changed as drastically as some say. Applications increased some 20% though, which explains the lower admission rate.

I believe the latest USNews package that you can purchase (2007) uses 2005 data for transfers.
