How hard is it to transfer to Brown as a Junior. Any Transfers out there that can help out or post there stats.

I don't think Brown releases transfer statistics. That can't be a good sign.

It used to be fairly easy (read: easier than say Yale) to get into Brown as a transfer. The acceptance rate was around 20%. However (I think due to the introduction of financial aid for transfers) I believe it has gone down considerably.

I don't think it's any more difficult for junior transfers than sophomore transfers to get accepted. I think there are more sophomore transfers admitted due to the fact that more apply.

I transfered in as a sophomore last year. Here are my stats (this is kind of long so brace yourself): (Feel free to IM me or PM me or whatever)

Note: I took a year off after high school, and anything labled PS means post secondary and is reffering to that year

Brown application history: I applied as a hs senior and was rejected. I applied during my year off (half assedly) and was waitlisted, and eventually rejected. I applied as a transfer from Tulane University my freshman year (for sophomore status) and was accepted!

--Nothing super notable about my college EC)

Other notes:

I sent in a very impressive ceramics portfolio, an impressive booklet / science journal my lab partner and I compiled during my first summer of research, a semi-impressive glass-blowing portfolio (beginners stuff, but something nonetheless),

I sent in 2 recs from professors of whose caliber I am uncertain (I never read them but I think they were very good) and two very good supplemental recomendations from a high school coach / teahcer and a boss/professor at the university

I also had in depth conversations with admissions people (including the dean of transfer admissions) mostly concerning financial aid for tranfers

I was a financial aid applicant (they are not need blind for transfers -- or at least weren't then)

I had the rugby team rooting for me (they aren't a varsity sport so they can't recruit, but I had someone nagging on the admissions committee in my behalf)

My essays were great. I sent in the transfer essay (which was about zydeco dancing, and how even a situation that seems undesirable can turn out to have positives -- and how i want brown like a mo fo) and an additional personal statement about my experiences teaching science to young children and how they see awe in everything -- and how we no longer do (but you can if you just pay attention, yadda yadda)

My great-grandfather taught at Brown -- but I don't think that meant a durn thing!

For the record, I applied to Yale, Brown, UPenn (legacy there), Pomona, Tufts, Oberlin, Vassar, Puget Sound, Wash in St. Louis, and Swarthmore. I was accepted at Swarthmore, UPenn, Puget Sound, Brown, and Vassar (recruited for rugby, there -- it's varsity), and deffered at WUSTL (never followed up because I had my brownypoo)

So that's all she wrote. I consider myself pretty expert on college applications, not because I'm a cocky bastard, but because I've done it 3 times. The first two times I did not succeed; my third time I got it right. So if you have any questions AT ALL I'm very happy to help.

I'm also bored watiing for school to start, so just IM me for the heck of it. Lol.

I hope this helps.

And oh, Brown is the happiest place on Earth, and I hope you consider it seriously, get accepted, and attend!!

I doubt you very much lady that Brown is happiest place as in Siberia the snow is even warm with happy.

So then why not apply to school in Siberia, huh? If you don't think Brown's a happy place, then why bother applying? Sorry a**** who don't even like Brown shouldn't bother applying because Brown deserves better than that.

PLease why do you bring anger into this? siberia is peaceful and sir i am sad if this lady upset you i promise in siberia no one is liek this they all died under stalin.

Who's this "sir" and "lady" of whom you speak of?

Considering that Brown's an ivy and everyone there is f****** smart, maybe work on those English skills a little so that you can keep up with any potential coursework and classmates?

Just a thought...

"of whom you speak of"

Just a thought...HTH

This year ('06-'07), Brown has accepted only 22 transfers. I heard that the previous year, they had about 140 transfers and the year before that, a bit more.

lol, I was one of those 22 and I didn't even matriculate.
Awesome.

Buggz, where did you get your stats from?

I got them from my transfer counselors...we have a very small group this year, which it's kind of awesome! :-)

Was it 22 accepted or 22 matriculated?

It was 22 matriculated. Sry, I didn't specify that.

Any word on whether that was just a one time deal (like they admitted too many people last year) or is it going to be around that difficult from that now on?

Congratz, Buggz! There are probably some more transfers coming in the spring. Either way, it's a big accomplishment!

brand_182: I have no idea how transfer admissions are going to work in the future. All I know is that when I arrived on campus I was informed that I was one out of 22 transfer students matriculating at Brown this year. Well, this Fall I mean. Whew! lol

ivyleaf: Thanks! :-) Yes, there are more coming this Spring...don't know how many though.

I'd say it's a one time deal. It varies a lot from year to year. Last year it was 140, and a couple years before that it was 75. So it all depends.

I still say that now that they offer financial aid it will be more difficult than before to get in, in general.

Hi Rachel! :-) wave

Hi Buggz!

(are you Steve?) hehehe... :D
