@chihuahua1 Phone interviews are awkward! I prefer the face to face interviews! You can read facial expressions, etc.
@chihuahua1 Oh wow I thought I was the only one, the same thing kind of happen to me.
Wow yea idk cuz i said bye first lol its just so weird cuz our convo ended and i was like “so have a nice day” lol i didnt know how to say bye
I had a Skype interview for another college where the interviewer was sitting in his messy bedroom. He had just graduated last year and was wearing an old sweatshirt for the university. Very awkward.
o well my stats r low too compared to other apps (31 ACT) but i have faith
In God and i believe in miracles so hopefully we ALL get in
I have a Skype interview tomorrow, Friday the 13th…wish me luck!
does anyone have any insight as to how heavily brown values legacies?
I’ve got a 30 act, 4.4 weighted GPA, solid essays, decent ECs but i’m a 4th generation legacy. my class is also extremely competitive.
All things being equal, it’s the tipping point.
@hann432 Usually the policies with schools like this is that if it comes between you and another applicant with very similar stats/similar resume/similar niche, they’ll use it as a “tiebreaker”. It doesn’t give you a 2 point ACT boost or anything.
hey guys! new to the thread, old to the college process. has anyone been able to check their financial aid status??
Just got an interview! Excited but…it seems a bit late in the game? I would have thought write-ups would be due to Brown by now. Regardless, I’m happy.
The “official” due date is Feb 15. Maybe your report will make the deadline.
But even if it doesn’t, at the end of the interviewing season each year, the Alumni Association makes every effort to arrange interviews for as many as possible who have been missed. So interviewers who are available can have a flurry of assignments at the last minute with flexible (not open-ended, but flexible) due dates.
Brown is not about finding ways–such as missed interview due dates-- to deny applicants, even though they have to deny over 90%. It is about finding reasons to accept you, according to my unsubstantiated opinion.
@fenwaypark Seeing as he emailed me for the first time tonight, it’s not going to make the deadline. I’m from MA, so given the number of applicants from this part of the country and the fact that I think Brown is a major long shot for me, I’m just happy I got one at all. It’s kind of them to accept write-ups after the official deadline, though.
I totally fell in love with Brown during my interview. Now I really hope I get in!
Haven’t had a chance to post but thought I’d share my own interview experience. I was sitting in the backyard of my cousins house on Saturday around noon when I got an email saying that my interview had to be done that day or at the very latest Sunday morning. The interviewer apologized and said that the person who was originally supposed to interview me had been in the hospital this winter and is seriously ill. (I’m from South Florida if anyone else here heard the same thing) She interviewed me on gotomeeting a few hours later and said the interview would only last 20 minutes. We ended up taking for just under an hour and was probably the best interview I’ve had. She kept saying how impressive my ECs and activities were and that they surpassed hers from when she was applying to Brown. I genuinely loved interviewing and now consider the school my first or second choice if you said I was admitted to every school where I applied. On a final note, she had graduated just 3 years ago and was by far the youngest college interviewer I’ve come into contact with (probably by 20 years). She was able to provide a more current perspective than any other interviewer had. Did anyone else have the surprise notification?
I had my Brown Interview on Monday and I think it went very well! I’m really hoping that interviews are accepted after February 15th!
Lol my phone interview was pretty awkward too. I was asked for my SAT scores (and provided them) even though I’m pretty sure interviewers aren’t supposed to ask…
Also, the interviewer basically told me that there are a lot of people like me at Brown. I wasn’t sure if he was slyly telling me that I was boring/not unique or that I was a good fit.
Ugh.
Can’t wait for all this to be over.
Just had a phone interview and it was also awkward. I’m not sure if it was good or bad, it was just like small talk conversation. Thank god these don’t count for much.
My interview will be over the phone, and the interviewer already told me he has a max of 20 minutes (he’s a neurosurgeon, so I’ll assume he’s pretty busy). Phone interviews make me so much more nervous, though! It’s much harder to get a read on someone over the phone, and I’m the kind of person that feeds off of other peoples energy. Phone interviews are just so much more awkward! At this point I’m happy I’m even getting one because apparently the write-up was due the 15th…
I did a phone interview and yes, I was nervous, I never did a phone interview, and it was only my second one overall. It went really well, she even asked for my essays, which I gladly gave. She told me that I was the best interview she had that day. She is a writer for a famous magazine, so I hope that the interview somewhat helps me out.
