The only person that got an interview from my school was recruited by Brown. Bummer because she’s the weakest student applying, but the most likely to be accepted. As she tells it (and I’m not entirely sure I believe her) although she got between 1400-1500/2400 (yes, out of 2400), she did not need to send in her SAT scores because of the program she’s applying to. Wish I’d stuck with kiddie league soccer
I’m just kinda bummed that I have to have a phone interview with Brown. I live an area that’s chock full of Ivy grads
I know it’s a dumb thing to be sad about, but I feel like I come off better in person.
@Qwerty568 is she an athlete?
I hope I get an interview this week! It would be my last one if I get contacted!
@TanTheeeta Yep.
@Qwerty568 Sorry, that must be a bummer
First, for any student-athletes who are interested in Brown, please understand that you must submit your SAT/ACT scores, class rank, and two top SAT2 scores, if available, to be considered for admission. This data is input into a formula called the Academic Index. Each Ivy athlete must score a minimum of 171 to be admitted. The average AI for all athletes combined must be within one standard deviation of the AI for the entire campus. (the average Ivy campus AI is typically between about 210-220 depending on the school)
I have a cite to the Ivy document describing this, and to other supporting material. Anyone interested, send me a PM.
In fact, if you are fortunate enough to be recruited for athletics at Brown, one of the first questions you will be asked will be about your academic standing. I know this because someone I am closely acquainted with has been through the Ivy/D3 recruiting process.
Second, Ivy athletics isn’t the SEC, but if anyone thinks sticking with kiddie soccer or the like is the path to athletic recruitment at Brown, I believe they are mistaken. Yes, you need to do youth sports, but it takes a special level of skill, determination, and character to be a varsity athlete at Brown.
I just got contacted for an interview. IDK what I’m going to do because I’m going to rice this weekend for vision sigh.
Still haven’t heard. Just try to do the interview earlier in the week or via Skype.
@fenwaypark The kiddie soccer bit was a joke
She told me that specifically since she is applying to become a teacher through their education program, she did not need to send them, not necessarily because she is a recruited athlete. Like I said, I do not really believe her- I have never heard of any degree program at Brown being test-optional, and she did not take the ACTs. However, if she had to send them, I feel that they would not have offered her an interview or maintained close contact with her, because her SAT scores are far, far too low for even the best of athletes to be considered a serious contender.
I concur with all that about the athletics.
I do not know anything about the education program, so cannot comment on that. And just so everyone is clear, applicants’ names are not allocated by the Alumni Association to Area Chairs based on a prior evaluation of the application by the Office of Admission.
Whether or not an interview takes place depends solely on the availability of interviewers to conduct them.
NOTE TO ALUMNI: You can see how much applicants cherish the opportunity for an interview with a Brown Alum. Go to the Brown Alumni Association website and log in. On the left side menu you will see “Alumni Interviewing Program”. Click on that and get yourself qualified to interview during subsequent admissions cycles!!!
(I guess this is a poor spot for a plug. Seems there are only three or four alumni who post more than occasionally…hopefully more are lurking. It would be nice to see more alumni posting, as well as interviewing)
Finally got an invitation for an interview this weekend.
@Wisalabd If your scores and grades good enough (which they are), you are competitive for Brown. Now it all comes down to your essays, ECs, and personal qualities. And Brown is need-blind, so your income level should not affect your admission prospects.
The person you are responding to is an international applicant. Brown is not need-blind for international applicants, correct?
Indeed. Brown uses need-aware policy for international applicants.
Finally got a Brown University Interview!
Wow that’s great! You are a domestic applicant, right? Which area? @stahboy
D2 got an email yesterday saying that the alum was helping out with the overload in our area. The alum said that interviews have to be done this week, so it’s a pretty tight schedule. D2’s glad to get the interview; we were assuming it wasn’t going to happen!
@TanTheeeta Yup! In the Midwest!
my interview was on the phone today. im not sure how it went lol. it lasted 40ish mins and he just asked me like 4 questions. We said bye and thats it. idk if he seemed interested. did anybody have a similar case with phone interviews? they are just so awkward lol
