Brown University Class of 2019 RD Applicants

@southerncanuck Congrats! Your son definitely deserved it. I sincerely hope you guys can afford it- Brown is an amazing school!

Does anyone know if Brown releases admissions decisions on March 31 or April 1?

@maddieelise
They are released on March 31 at 5pm

@spiderwoman…Thanks. Yes my son worked hard for years and I’m very proud. Both my wife and I are first generation college grads but neither have been through the US system before. It is pretty intense…at least eyes are open for son number two.

Congrats to your son. I hope he can go. Brown is really a special place with a great deal of academic freedom you don’t find many other places.

Can anyone here comment on the party/club scene at Brown and surrounding it?

@DL43516‌ I’ve lived in the Providence area for all of my life and I can vouch for the fact that there are a lot of things to do. There are a couple clubs that I know of that are 18+ and also some 21+ ones. Thayer street, which is directly adjacent to campus, is full of shops, restaurants, and even some bars and clubs, so there are endless opportunities. Brown also does have a great Greek life program with houses on campus so I’m sure there are tons of parties that are thrown through the Frats.

@justinn76 great! Thanks for responding! I’ve come to the conclusion that I really should have learned more about ED/EA/REA and whatnot; I wasn’t aware you could do ED and EA. If I had been, I probably would have ED’d to Brown. Oh well, what’s done is done. I just really hope I can get in

@DL43516‌ Don’t worry; statistics show that Brown’s ED doesn’t really raise an applicant’s chance of acceptance anyway. Plus, if you’re getting great grades your senior year, you’ll be able to add those to be reviewed with your application as well. Good luck to both of us! What concentration did you apply for?

@justinn76 thanks! I applied as an English major! And yes, my first semester was all A’s, so that could help I guess. What about you, what’s your intended major?

@DL43516‌ Either Economics or Applied Math - Economics. I’m hoping that my RI residency makes Brown want to admit me

@justinn76 I’ve heard it helps, which is really great for you! I’m a first generation applicant, which I’ve heard Brown values, so I’m hoping that will help!

Im International, which Brown hates, I’m Asian which Brown hates(but I’m brown, so it may just work  ). I applied for applied math, which Brown hopefully likes since it is uncommon.

I’m first gen, QuestBridge, Hispanic, but my low scores will be an issue. ACT 29, GPA 3.7 I applied for public policy idk if that helps or hurts.

First gen. and RI resident! 3.6 UW GPA :frowning: and 31 ACT

Brown really hates International? I thought they had high portion of Chinese students, but I guess not

No, I don’t think they hate international students. They just maintain high standards for scores, grades and ECs.

Every college loves full-pay international students.

And yet, most will limit internationals to a certain percentage of the incoming class.

With that same argument, you could say that first generation, African-American, Hispanic, and/or Native American students are also at a “disadvantage” because, in pattern, their numbers are also “limited” to a certain quota. In addition, international students make up about 10-15% of the admitted student body, but they probably do not make up the same percentage of the applicant body (correct me if I’m wrong on this), which further goes to say that the international student’s disadvantage is a myth. The only way I see this working against you is if you are Asian (which you are) because under the school profile, you might be included in category “Asian” rather than “international”. Still, the best of luck to you and all!
