Brown University Class of 2019 RD Applicants

I think all international applicants got the 5:30 time

I honestly believe that you shouldn’t read too deeply into it, and that they just don’t want the server to crash with all of us logging on at the same time.

In the past, the same difference of times has happened with no direct correlation to acceptances

In theory, the number of people accepted wouldn’t be enough to crash the sever, so it wouldn’t make sense for them to split the times between accepted/rejected.

@semperfi what about the number of people who applied? I think the sudden surge in the amount of traffic could cause the server to crash, or lag at the very least!

When William and Mary replied, they sent out the acceptance + waitlist email batch together early in the evening, and the rejection batch an hour and a half later.

@fizzy110 That’s what I mean – since so many more will be rejected, by putting all of the rejections together it would cause the server to crash or lag. It wouldn’t be very efficient to only put the acceptances at one time, as there would hardly be any chance of it crashing with only around 2000 people. It would be much more efficient to mix the two so that the number of people logging on at each time is approximately equal.

  1. Brown has no control over when people log in. The 5 pm group can log in at 3 pm, 4 pm or 6 pm. The 5:30 pm group, the same.
  2. I know a 5:30 last year who was accepted. Logged in at 5:01
  3. If you are a 5:30 and you log in at 5:00 and get through, I believe you will see your decision
  4. No big mystery or cause for tea leaf reading. If Brown can encourage some applicants to log in at 5:30 instead of at 5:00 it will reduce the chances for the server to crash

Folks, this happens every year. Every single year. Brown figures that the vast majority of its applicants aren’t on CC comparing notes from around the world. The vast majority of applicants don’t realize that there are different log-in times and therefore don’t suspect ulterior motives (where there aren’t any). Ditto what fenwaypark said – log in whenever you want.

I got a likely to Brown and my email said 5:30 so no, I don’t believe there is any deeper reason behind this other than for the sake of saving their server

Hello. Is not having the IDOC requested by Brown a bad sign? I know they say that they are need blind, but does anyone have any thoughts on this.

@yoshi105‌ I have the same issue. It could mean that they got enough data from your FAFSA and CSS to make the financial aid decision or they don’t plan on offering us financial aid or the just rejected us. No idea.

I’m pretty sure IDOC requests are random. Because they wouldn’t have made the decisions during the time of request which for me was early February. I wouldn’t read into that!

Ahh sigh. Thanks for the help guys.

5:30 group here as well. I think I’ll log in early and rebel.

I think I’m gonna wait till 5:30 like my email said, I’m just so nervous :s

I’ll start trying at 5 :stuck_out_tongue:

I got the 5 email in FL, but I don’t think it means anything

Rereading my Brown supplements and questioning my sanity/mental stability at the time…

@pianogeek, hahah story of my life with all my apps.
