Hi All,

I applied to the Brown University Rue Program for enrollment this fall. I did not see this discussion on the Brown boards so I created it. Are there any other applicants out there? What are your stories? Have you heard anything? I’m told they want will release decisions May 9th.

Debris,

I’m a fellow RUE applicant. Got my application in just before the deadline. And literally just got off the phone with them, they confirmed that decisions will be released next Friday, the 9th. So you’re right about that. My story is fairly straightforward. I was an extremely unimpressive student in HS, went to community college, attended no classes for one semester, aced my second, and then attended none the third. Stopped going. Joined the Army in '09. Getting out in August. Spent my time in the military as an analyst for the NSA. Deployed once. Attended a very prestigious military language school, which I hope will speak to my ability to dedicate myself to studies. 24 years old. I applied mostly to say that I gave myself the chance, I’m not really expecting to get in. Want to pursue an education in economics. Still waiting to get a response back from UVa (should hear tomorrow) and Northeastern University. As it stands now, going to Penn State. So who’re you, what makes you a good RUE candidate?

Hey Duranti,

Good to hear from you. I got accepted to the Columbia University School of General Studies and so far that’s my #1 choice but I have 11 more schools to hear from. I’m 28 years old. Went to a private right out of high school and left to pursue film. From 2007 - 2009 I was a filmmaker and had my work shown in Cannes, Berlin and Tribeca film festivals. Around 2010 I saw the need for a social network for filmmakers and raised the money to start one. I ran the company as the CEO and created a board of advisors from companies like Myspace, Forbes and CBS films. I could only get so far being that it was my first company but I tried my best and learned a lot. Entered a community college in 2012 and currently have a 4.0 after two years and investment banking internship lined up for this summer. I’ve also been tutoring economic at the CC for the past year.

I have no idea if I have a shot or not. But like you, after hearing about the program I felt compelled to apply. Awesome job on Penn State.

Any ideas how many RUE applicants there are in a year or how many they accept?

Best of luck to you!

From what little I’ve been able to find, there are traditionally anywhere from 80-100 applicants, and they’ll accept as few as 3-4 or up to 10. The primary determinant on how many they’ll accept is the amount of financial aid the program is allotted each year. And my god, it sounds like you’ve absolutely got my seat waiting for you at Brown. You’re a much better candidate than I am. Best of luck, Debris, I think you’ve got a very good chance at acceptance considering your impressive experiences and educational history.

So full of doubts, man. so full of doubts. The few veterans I’ve met are really, really outstanding people – would not be surprised if you get that call of the 9th!

Any other RUE candidates out there?

Hi,
This is my first post, I was looking for information pertaining to the RUE program and hoping to get in touch with some applicants. I am an international RUE candidate, not too hopeful after I read some posts. Nothing outstanding, dropped out of school after graduating because of some financial constraints. Worked as a programmer and a volunteer with some organizations. Won a couple of awards for community service and am hoping to major in math. I have to accept that I am quite anxious. Good to know that it would be out on Friday. I am pretty sure I won’t sleep on Thursday. Good luck to all you guys.

Hi all,
I am an RUE applicant as well. Not sure of my chances, I haven’t done anything spectacular since graduating high school in 2008. I do feel as though my application will stand out due to aspects of my life that I will not discuss here at this time. I am 24 years old and currently attending community college with a 4.0 GPA. I’m a member of the student government association and I have done volunteer work in my community. I love Brown University and I am anxious to receive the results. Good luck to everyone!

I didn’t hear from anyone today, did y’all?

I haven’t heard anything either. Did anyone hear from them??

Hey, check your mailboxes everybody, I had my rejection letter in the mail today. I knew this was a huge reach for me, so I’m not really upset. I’m plenty pleased with Penn State, honestly. Better than I could’ve hoped for just a couple of years ago. Best of luck to the rest of y’all!

Sorry to hear, but congrats and best of luck at Penn State,

Hi Duranti,

Congrats on Penn State. I am out of the country until the end of the month. Did Brown emailed you at any point regarding their decision or is it entirely a snail mail process?

No contact made whatsoever besides the physical mail. I’d give them a call, if I were you. They should be able to let you know over the phone.

Denied Hello Columbia GS!

I feel extremely humbled reading all the backgrounds yall have posted here. I don’t feel nearly as qualified. I did get accepted, but I only mention this to say that it was through the mail. I also did not get a phone interview, but I was reading past threads here and saw that many other people in past years have. Did any of you all have a phone interview for the RUE program?

Debris, your background especially is extremely interesting. I was really hoping when I scrolled through this thread that I’d see you were accepted. However you mentioned Columbia was your first choice, so I hope that works out for you! What types of films were you making?

Good luck to everyone on their decisions.

lol did anyone get in??

As you seem to be the only person on this thread who was accepted, can you tell me a little bit about your background? I am considering applying to the program for 2016-2017…
Of course! Check your inbox.
