Brown University RUE Students

Hi,

I will be applying to Brown University as a RUE applicant for admission into the fall 2012-2013 academic year. I would like to hear from current or past RUE students as to what defining characteristics they portrayed in the admission process that they think helped them gain admittance into Brown. What type of essays did you write, what subjects did you write about, and what were some of your life experiences?

Thanks in advance,

TDUCKS

Hello,
I will also be applying for admission into the RUE program! Anyone else out there finishing their application package?

I am a graduate of the Brown University R.U.E. Program. I was accepted in 1984 and graduated in 1988. I would be glad to answer any questions.

So who else applied to RUE?

Thanks for the offer Greenzen!

Hi, I am interested in Brown RUE program but I am wondering where I stand given the following details:

 1. I am an international student (LDC)
 2. Dropped out of college due to financial problems
 3. Worked odd jobs and saved enough to obtain a professional qualification (equivalent to undergraduate honors)
 4. Worked with a university professor to publish a research paper
 5. Voluntarily worked for a couple of NGOs
 6. Recently started up own firm

I am 26 years old and I have a keen interest to pursue higher studies but I do not have an academic college degree. I contacted few admissions officers and I was told that I am ineligible for graduate study without an academic undergraduate degree, regardless of my test(SAT/GRE) scores. So I decided complete college and, with the money I saved, I can partially fund for my college education.

Thank you.

Daysailor it sounds like you have the potential to qualify for the RUE Program. You do not necessarily need SAT scores but your grades before you dropped out of college will be taken into consideration. I would try to incorporate your life experiences into an engaging essay and inform them that you have the ability to pay for some of your tuition since I believe there is limited funding for the program. It is also highly competitive as I have heard they are letting in a smaller number of students each year.

Thank you, Greenzen, for your kind reply. I was unsure as to whether RUE is open to international students. Also, Thank you for your advice on the essay. I will start working on it. I intend to take SAT tests to make my application uniform. I am planning to apply for Fall 2013.

I’m also in the process of finishing all application details for the RUE program, and am very hopeful about studying at Brown.

So who here is working on their essays still?

@jedimasterham

I just finished…finally! How close are you to completion?

I’m still working on the “Why Brown” question.

What did everyone here write about?

Anyone still here?

Still here.

arghh, I’m still waiting on a professor who said he’d write a recommendation, yet hasn’t responded in 5 days…

Jedi, are you in community college?

Yep, I’m a CC student.

anyone get decisions yet, can anyone post their stats? thanks and gluck

I think its too early for RUE decisions.

Update*
I just spoke to Admissions and was told that decisions for RUE will be out in early to mid-May.

Good luck to everyone.

Does anyone know how many RUE applicants there are for this coming school year? There doesn’t seem to be too many of us on here, though I’m sure there are more. Also, has anyone gotten any phone calls yet?
