Brown University Young Communist League

I was doing some online research for my Why Brown essay and saw that they have an official communist club. It doesn’t really bother me, but I was just curious as to what everyone thinks about that.

Go to its website and see what events they hold. Anyone can bang out a club name and put up a website. Does it draw members and hold significant events? Recall all those lame “clubs” at your HS? They can happen at college too.

How old are they? I graduated in 2009 and have never heard of them. I’m not surprised that there is one, but if it was around then, it certainly didn’t have a noticeable presence.

@iwannabe_Brown I’m not sure. I saw it on the list of clubs on Brown’s website and tried to look up more info but didn’t find anything.

Back in the early 90s I attended a few meetings of the Youth Communist League at Brown. There were less than 5 people each time. In contrast to the International Socialist Organization, which was essentially political, the YCL focused on actual community service activities in Providence such as volunteering and supporting soup kitchens and homeless shelters. Why do you ask?

@brown1996 Thanks! I’m not really sure why I asked. It doesn’t bother me, but I was pretty surprised that the group existed and wanted to see people’s thoughts.
