Hey Guys! This isn’t a question but more as a statement. I was on my school’s naviance page for my account and I looked at BROWN University’s acceptances to my school and what their stats was without revealing their names, but anyways I saw a student get accepted with a 3.7 WEIGHTED GPA and a 1060 SAT!!! A 3.7 Weighted GPA amounts in our school to around a 2.8 Unweighted. Ive never seen a score like this online, but it was under my nose the whole time! I go to a top 10 HS in Chicago and were pretty good. Students with 5.0 GPA’s and 1500 SAT’s were rejected as well in the scatterplot, so just goes t show you, have faith in yourself and you never know, you might get accepted!
He or she had stats of a 2.8 GPA and a 1060, isn’t that amazing?
No way to know for sure, but this was probably a “recruited athlete”. Ivy coaches in the varsity sports get a certain number depending on the sport, and then it’s a matter of the applicant meeting minimum academic qualifications – be able to complete courses and graduate, at least (note that many recruited athletes are quite talented academically in addition to their athletic contribution to the student body).
There could also be more behind the aggregate numbers than what is apparent: English language skills close to zero in eighth grade but now quite good; Increasingly better grades from year to year; SAT breakdown skewed favorably towards the intended concentration of the athlete, e.g. a dismal Math score but a decent Writing ability, aligning well for a budding Sociology concentrator.
