hi everyone! i had posted this exact forum under another topic and was advised to post it in the visual arts area to get advice from people in the arts. Most people in the other forum told me i should go to Brown but i would like to hear from you all.

i was accepted into Brown and RISD, both my top choices, but i did not get into the Dual Degree program.

here are the facts:
- RISD gave me a lot of money. i don't know how much financial aid i am getting from Brown yet
- i want to have the "college experience" and be well rounded so that i can have options.
- i LOVE art but do not know if i want to pursue a career in it seeing that it would be difficult to do so in this era. But i have been drawing since i was young and maybe would love to design.
- i also am trilingual and am president of my school's Human Rights club (a version of Amnesty international) and thus i am also considering International relations so i can travel
- brown is awesome. risd is awesome.
- i do not know which school will provide me with the best opportunities for the future,

i am obviously very confused...any words of advice or tales would help. Also, does anyone know how many classes at RISD i can take if i decide to attend Brown and vice versa if i go to RISD? thank you so much!

How about an undergrad at Brown and a MFA from RISD? That would be a great combination plus it allows for a more rounded education. RISD is terrific but I’d go to Brown first.

Good job getting admitted to these two great schools!

I totally agree with Wheaty. If you are not absolutely positive you want an art career, go to Brown. You can always take some classes at RISD if they fit into your schedule. Congratulations on two great choices!

There is RISD accepted students day on Thursday. Can you get up there for a visit? From what I hear it is easier for RISD students to take Brown classes. The upper level RISD classes have requirements and foundation classes can get closed out. But it is not impossible. I have heard good things about the Brown Art Dept. But if you want to do design that’s a whole different ball game. It sounds like, from your post, you are more of a Brown student. But you might be surprised at the opportunities RISD provides. Look at Wintersession courses. Look at this organization: [Respond | Design](http://www.respond-design.org/mission.php)

As many of you know from my previous posts, I am a big supporter of RISD. But I believe that if you are not absolutely sure that you want to pursue a career in art, then Brown is probably the more appropriate place for you. I will be the first to admit that RISD students are not considered “well rounded” because RISD kids live art and design 24/7. They get great preparation for careers in those fields, but there is little room in the curriculum for other interests. Also, RISD is certainly NOT a normal “college experience.” It is a one-of-a-kind experience!

From your posting, fruban, you sound much more like a future Brownie.

It is true that it is possible for RISD students to take classes at Brown and vice versa, but there are limitations (just one class per semester for sophomores, juniors, and seniors, so a max of 6 classes in total). And you have to really be committed to do it as there are scheduling problems to be worked out.

My daughter and I just attended an accepted students day at RISD and this is what they said. The semesters really only match up in the fall. So practically taking courses at Brown is pretty limited and only 150 or so kids do it a year fro
RISD.
