Brown vs Vanderbilt vs UPenn

Hey guys I'm gonna be a senior this year and i want to apply ED to either Brown, Vanderbilt, or Upenn. I have visited all the universities and i like em all im kinda stuck. I plan on majoring in neuroscience. I would like to either go to med school after college or do a MD/PhD. The reason i liked these three colleges most is because i feel that they have the best balance. I want to be at a college with a positive atmosphere mainly. Which college do you feel would be best for me based on the path that i plan in taking?

Brown. You can preserve your GPA easily there by dropping classes that you think you will do poorly in. I almost went to Brown for that reason, even as a politically conservative person. Unless you absolutely hate liberals, go to Brown for pre-med. Their neuroscience program is also pretty good, from what I’ve heard.

I agree with @bradybest. Brown has an excellent neuroscience program!

Apply to all three. They are very selective. Defer the decision to after you get accepted.

Ou could do EA if you have no particular preference

@fogcity i want to apply ED to one so i will have better chances. @shawnspencer i was not aware that any of those schools had EA

I think Brown would be best if you’d prefer the liberal arts environment, and the curricular flexibility they offer. Providence is a fun city, but it plays back-up to Boston, especially in the Medical and health care fields - people can use any of the world-class hospitals in Boston that are barely an hour away. Nashville is a regional medical Mecca. Philadelphia also has an internationally-renowned cluster of hospitals. The question should come down to which college you think would suit you more. I know the city of Philadelphia better than Nashville, but I have visited Vanderbilt. If you love the live music scene, along with a more traditional campus and more competitive D-1 sports, then Vanderbilt might be better than Penn. If you prefer a city with a good mass-transit network, great museums, and more of a Northern hipster vibe, then Penn would be for you. They still play D-1 sports, and have Greek-letter organizations, but the Ivy League is not the SEC. My son lives in Philly and loves it. It’s an affordable city, with lots going on. You can’t go wrong with any of those colleges. If you know that your family can pay for them, then ED is probably the way to go. They all like applicants who show them a lot of love.

Vanderbilt!
