Brown vs. Yale

Hey guys!

I’m currently a junior in high school right now and have been debating between early action to brown(early decision?) and early action(early decision?) to Yale. Both of these are such amazing schools! I know its a bit hard to have objective opinions when i’m specifically posting in the Brown forum haha.

I had a few areas in mine though…
Which one is more artsy?(Ive been doing classical Indian dance and Bollywood forever, love love art, art museum internship, job shadowing art teacher, take college art classes)
Which one is better for a history major?
Which one offers a better selection of med school prerequisites(pre med courses)?
Which one is located in a nicer area?
Which one believes in giving back more?(founder and president of the Red Cross club in my school, most active in the Dallas area!, love service projects, taught in missionary schools in India)
Which one is more liberal?
More fun?
More interesting in terms of people, like a larger diversity?

Thank you! I tried to as specific as I can and if you have any other input like personal experiences, it would be appreciated! I’m planning on visiting both of these during the summer.

I’d post this in the general Brown forum, not the class of 2015 forum.

If you’re interested in medicine, have you looked at the PLME program at Brown? Check it out. We’re pretty awesome.

Thanks! Yes, I should have done that, haha.

Hey MedforLife, I’ve been wondering those questions too!

Right now my top two choices are Yale and Brown. I keep going back and forth between the two.

On one hand, I think Brown’s open curriculum (the pass/fail grading option for some courses) is a refreshing idea.

On the other hand, my parents care about prestige and they’ve definitely heard of Yale, but they had never heard of Brown until I mentioned it a few weeks ago. Some of my friends haven’t either, which is pretty sad.

I like Yale’s college residential system. However, I was wondering if the residential system makes you more clique-ish since, from what I’ve heard, people like in one building all four years. Can anyone confirm or refute this?

I’ve also heard that Yale is full of snobs and elitists. Again, can anyone address this?

MedForLife, Yale has a good arts program and better financial aid.

id say brown can be more artsy but it depends what classes you take just like everywhere else. Brown is definitely in the better area. No offense but New Haven is a pit. Brown is pretty liberal minded too

Go to the websites. in my opinion, I don’t remember being all that impressed with Yale’s website, which reflects the school. But I was really impressed with Brown’s website, it was very informational without going on and on. Plus, through Brown’s website you can chat with a student from Brown Mondays through Thursdays 8 am to 10 pm or email a student and ask them the questions you have. I’m sure Yale has something similar. You can also email or send the letter to the administrations to find out about their programs.
