Hi, I am currently a freshman at a top state school in NY. My GPA sucks badly due to poor choices of professors my freshman year (the guy was like 80, had a speech problem/nervous system problems, he really should have retired), anyhoo I think this will severely ruin any chance of transferring. My spring semester so far, I am doing medicore, like maybe like 1 or 2 As, and the rest B’s or above. I am also planning to take summer courses here to try to boost my GPA higher. The way I look at it, is I have summer and fall of 06 to redemn myself, possibly some spring.

I want to transfer to Brown of course, not just because it’s a good school, but because I feel I belong there.
I am going to apply the end of my sophomore year, and hopefully get in as a jr transfer.

I WILL NOT BE APPLYING FOR FINANCIAL AID.

Some pluses:
I work at the college’s academic advising office, doing various projects such as outreach to the students. I also plan to be a peer advisor starting fall semester. I will also get a great recommendation from my boss who is head of the academic advising department (we’re both star trek geeks =P)
I participated in our school’s collegebowl competition my freshman year. I qualified for my building, then my community, but i failed to qualify for the university team because I only ranked 8th, and not the top 6. I will give it a shot again sophomore year, hopefully some seniors will be gone and I will recieve a spot then. I have also made great friends with my current English professor, and she said she’ll write me a great reccommendation. (would it help if I sent some of my writing samples from that class?)

Anything would be helpful, definitely.

I’m just really scared my GPA will ruin me. Thank you.
