Brunswick

Let’s talk about it, please? I’m from a [very urban] suburb of New York and I want to be able to walk out of my dorm and have a less than twenty minute walk to a clothing store… you know, not a shopping mall, but if I need a shirt, can I find one in Brunswick?

Now, I realize that that’s a very particular inquiry, but it sort of sets the bar. If I can buy a shirt, then it’s civilized enough for me. I’d also like to know about restaurants and other features…

Thanks so much!
Bustles

you can definitely buy a shirt. and hey, who knows, maybe even a pair of pants. :]

if you get lucky...you might be able to find socks too!!

haha
When I visited I felt like there were definitely necessities in Brunswick. If you really want to go shopping...Freeport is like a 20 drive and there are all sorts of designer stores and LLB and stuff

i had a really good lunch and dinner in Brunswick. there are lots of little cafes and restaurants and stuff.
there is even a movie theater

aw that's good :) I like what I'm hearing

Hey does that mean you need a car on campus to get around? Are Frosh allowed to
have one? Does anyone know if a 7 year old Ford Taurus would make it through
Maine winters?

Thanks!

Starting next year, freshmen will not be allowed to have cars on campus at Bowdoin . .

freeport has all the fancy chain stores that you'd find in new york. well maybe not all of them, but many of them. brunswick is walkable and great. i live in new york now and miss it sometimes. the environments are very different, but i think worth a few years of your time. :)

yes, a Taurus will make it through Maine winters, they're actually pretty good in them. Mine's 5 years old and has run smoothly through last years butloads of snow. Just make sure you've got appropriate tires. and ABS brakes help a ton, too.... and a window scraper

Brunswick is a cute little town, it's got some little boutiques and your average necessities... plus a movie theater. it actually has a downtown, so you'll be able to find most things. Freeport with lots of outlet shopping is only a short drive away, and Portland, our largest city (though only 60,000 people) is about 30/45 minutes away.

Oh btw I'm not a Bowdoin student, just a kid from Maine (though applying to Bowdoin)

yeah freshmen will not be allowed to have cars on campus starting from the class of 2013 but the Bowdoin shuttle still runs which costs $3 to go to Portland or Freeport and is free anywhere within a mile of campus. Also most things in Brunswick you could probably walk to.

Bowdoin just got a couple of cars.....they now have thee zipcar thing
they have a hybrid and then a bigger car for other stuff
i think it was a hondo civic hybrid and a honda element
