@texaspg, agree. If there is the slightest doubt (even if this happens only once every ten or hundred inquiries), avoid doing it.

@texaspg, I can see that the applicants should refrain from impatiently asking such questions. What about submitting additional information, recent awards, or showing interest? Are these e-mails welcomed by the SOM?

I really think of BS and MD as two separate admissions at any school and that is how they admit.

The BS part works in your favor the more information you provide and the more interest you show in the school because the adcoms prefer students with genuine interest (the top 10 or so schools prefer you not contact them with such interest but that is entirely a separate story since they are receiving 30k apps).

The MD side prefers that you submit your app and stay quiet after that as long you have a confirmation your app is complete. The people looking at your paperwork are not real adcoms and there is only one or two managing the whole process for a few hundred applicants and bombarding them with more information between December when you filed and January when they are deciding invitations does not help at all. If the app has already gone for review to some really busy doctors and you keep sending more info, how does it help them?

This explains why SOM would ask for things like “all your materials in one envelope” or “even if you already submitted your LOR to the Comm App, you still need to submit them to the BS/MD program.”

@IMGDAD, you are very informative about all the schools. My daughter along with BS/Md applied for few BS/DO programs as well. She got admission to NYIT/NYCOM and is waiting for an interview at NOVA and LECOM. I did’nt know much about the DO programs until recently, so nice to see your input on these schools.

@Saimedical, thank you. I am glad to see that this year there are more students considering the BS/DO program as another option, and I truly believe that it is a good alternative to the BS/MD program for those who want to go into a combined program. Other than still some prejudice against a DO degree, a DO degree is functionally the same as an MD degree. Congrats to your daughter!

UAB EMSAP:

Just as I have predicted, no news is bad news for EMSAP. Here is a copy of the email my son received this afternoon after contacting the EMSAP office. It would appear that the rejection in most cases will come in the snail mail:

“I am sorry to tell you that you were not chosen for an EMSAP interview at UAB. You will receive a letter in the mail later this week, but I wanted to go ahead and respond to your inquiry. Thanks for your interest. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.”

So son will have his SKYPE interview on Wednesday this week with Dr Brian Baldwin at Kean for the Kean/Drexel program. Anyone else having a SKYPE interview with Dr Baldwin?

My daughter had her skype interview last night by Kean professor. I don’t remember the name but I don’t think it was Dr.Brain Baldwin. My daughter exchanged emails with him yesterday and they spoke late last night. He did not give any information on when she will hear back. Apparently Drexel accepts 6 candidates via Kean. And they recommend few more than that to Drexel for interview.

Rejected from Penn State/Jefferson, but good luck to anybody who received an interview!
Has anybody gotten a notice from Nova/Drexel or Drexel for their program?

@FrozenShardz: So sorry to hear. You win some you lose some. Good luck with the other programs! :/

@FrozenShardz Really sorry to hear that, this whole process is a crapshoot How were you notified?

@FrozenShardz, Sorry about that, but this is all based on chance. There are other programs that might accept you, so don’t worry. Everyone is on the same boat. I was wondering how you found that out because on my Penn State Status, it still says that my credentials are being reviewed for the program.

Same here, CAJ2014

Remember guys, all of you are smart students and the creme de la creme. It is not the end of the world even if you have been rejected. Whatever happens, you will eventually come out the victor. If you look at postings from previous years, no one received offers from every single program he/she applied to. You would be lucky to have more than three offers. So everyone should expect some rejections.

Keep your heads up everybody. There is more than one path. There are schools that also allow you to apply after freshman year. Did you apply to those UG schools too?
Also, getting to a combined program is one big hurdle but staying in is another too. The stress doesn’t end - med school is very difficult too. Keep pushing and eventually one way or another you will pave your path.
Sorry to hear about the rejections but good luck on the ones you have not heard from yet.

As a parent I feel so anxious about all this, it must be stressful for the students who have worked so hard to apply to these programs. Sincerely hope all the students in this board make it to one or more programs. Good luck to everyone!

Son got rejected from Penn State/Jefferson too. Low SAT 2140 was the culprit as he did not study hard for it. Other students do deserve it more than my son. Hope you all become good doctors. Good to get the news anyway.

Sorry to hear that news, frank6215. Your words are very kind and encouraging and best wishes to your son. Did you get to know by email?

@Saimedical, for the Kean/Drexel program, Judy April at Kean told my son that, after his interview with the professor at Kean, he would be informed before the end of January on whether he has been chosen for the Drexel interview or not.
