BS/MD programs for 2016 applicants

If anyone could offer advice, please let me know… I’m really hoping to get into one of these programs, but I’m worried I’m not good enough…

  1. High stats. Not much time to get them if you don't already have them.
  2. Relevant medical experience. Kind of similar to the above.
  3. Luck.

Those are the main “ingredients.”

I am a current junior, and I was wondering if anyone could offer me advice on what to play up on my application

W GPA: 4.2
UW: 3.9
No rank

ACT: 30
But will probably be 32 by time of application.

I’ve taken AP Bio, AP Euro, AP Calc AB, AP Physics, AP US history, and many honors classes.

Female, Hispanic student from Southern California.

I am involved in many clubs at school, have 100+ volunteer hours and some leadership. Summer internship at a genetics lab at UCSD.

BS/MD programs are highly competitive.

The rule of thumb for acceptance to BS/MD programs seems to be: They’re accepting students with stats that are so strong that the schools are assuming that these students would be accepted anyway if they applied during the traditional time. You’re probably going to need at least the ACT 32 to be considered.

Have you shadowed any doctors?

Many of them have a high instate bias because they’re at public univs.

The BS/MD program in Missouri UMKC seems to accept a good number of OOS students.

Do you need financial aid? If so, then attending an OOS public with a BS/MD program could be very expensive.

I don’t need financial aid; my parents promised that we would figure it out if I got in. I have shadowed a physician and I will have some more hospital volunteering time by the time of applications. I just feel that my GPA and test scores are too low/: thanks for the advice!
