Anyone here in this program? Comments on your experience? How hard is it to get in (i.e., how many students accepted per year?) Anything you have to offer is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks in advance!

im in the program (called mmedic/engmedic) and have loved it. it is selective in that, for both programs together, only between 8-13 students are accepted each year, and applicant pools vary from year to year. you apply in december/jan of ur soph year, and if u make it to the next step u then have 2 interviews in april, and find out in june/july about admission. u go to bu med with advanced standing b/c u have to have taken at least 1 of the major science courses so u will have already done either biochem, physio/endo, immunology, etc.

thanks! so what do you mean about “both programs?” Are there two programs?

mmedic is for any major, engmedic is for biomedical engineers. so for example, in my year there are 8 mmedics and 4 engmedics, and in the year below me there are 13 mmedics and no engmedics.

Around what GPA do you need to even be considered? And is it only based on GPA or other things such as internships, volunteer work, MCATs, etc?

One other thing: Would you consider this program an “interactive” experience? In other words, do you get to do research while still an undergrad? Do you get to go and talk to people/get involved in the medical school while still an undergrad?

probably at least a 3.2, the average gpa they accept is ~3.6 (i had a 3.5 when i applied). and it is absolutely not based just on gpa. because they accept u as a soph in college, they need proof that u have explored the medical profession and that youre positive that u want to be a doctor. therefore u need to do research, work in a hospital, volunteer at a nursing home, or something along those lines. they will not accept someone without some kind of experience.

u won’t have taken the mcat at that time, so they don’t look at that. however, to maintain ur status in the program u need to maintain a 3.2 gpa, 3.0 science gpa, and get a 30 on the mcat (they raised it recently, it was 28 for my year).

bee: u can do research like any other undergrads can, u just have to take initiative and approach your professors and find opportunities. u are required to take at least 2 classes directly at the med school, so u can talk to people and get involved by talking to ur med school professors.

Is this the same as the 7yr. Liberal Arts/Medical Program or not?

no.
