BU and PennState

Hey guys, i’m from NJ and was looking into majoring in biology for my undergrad at these schools. Does anyone knows what gpa/ECs/ SATs/etc someone needs to get into these? Also, what is the percentage of Biology undergrads who get into med school from these colleges?

You can research the Common Data Set on both schools’ websites.

I doubt if medical school acceptance rates are broken down by major.

You’re looking for VERY specific information that is probably not publicly available. You should try giving the bio departments at each school a call. You never know, they may have that info handy.

Good luck!

1° Avoid majoring in biology. There’s currently an oversupply of them, which the market can’t absorb.
2° BU is terrible for premeds because it has major grade deflation.
3° Penn State is a large “public-adjacent” university. If you want good premed advising, you’re better off getting admitted to Schreyer Honors College or, if you’re in Biological Anthropology, benefit from the Paterno Fellows program.
4° universities’ percentiles about med school acceptance are always manipulated. They only reflect the students who, as juniors or seniors, were so likely to be admitted that the university supported them (“committee letter”), not the freshmen who arrived thinking they’d be premed (the vast majority of these change their minds and/or are weeded out).
