BU Audition Question

BU indicates that "applicants may elect to present a portfolio representing their additional interests in theatre (i.e., a script or a portfolio of directing work)" in addition to auditioning for a performance track. My D has some nice costume design and directing work she could present but I am not sure of how to format it or anything like that because she hasn't had to do any others. Has anyone here done that for BU? Any guidance or information? I know design track kids have to upload their portfolio but I am not sure if performance track kids do that. Any other information about auditions at BU would be much appreciated.

My D went through auditions last year. Her directors at HS (a performing arts HS) had all acting students put together portfolios. D did hers like a scrapbook and included photos, newspaper reviews, her directing notebook from when she directed a one-act play, and some of her dramaturgy work. Other kids (some of whom were also in the tech dept) included costume designs and set/lighting design schematics. Some of the schools that D auditioned for took the time to look at her portfolio and she received some nice comments about the depth and breadth of her work - other schools did not glance at it. She did audition for BU and I think that they were one of the schools that gave her nice comments. And BU was one of her favorite auditions - they really took time to work with her and give suggestions for monologues, etc.

Thank you! That is great that the folks at your D’s school had the kids do that!

I think tomorrow is going to be another snow day and I think I know what we are going to be doing. Fortunately I have binders and sheet protectors!

I love hearing about how kids have these deep passions for theater. Its nice to know that some of the schools appreciate that as well.

How wonderful! Good luck with everything!
