Test Scores: 30 ACT, should i retake?

Personal statements: (i kind of integrated the 4 topics below into my essays)

when i was a freshman my parents got in an accident and i had to start taking care of my whole family. what i mean is that my chores got tripled, i needed to help my parents move through the house, and i had to walk my bro to school before i went. My school and his school are in 2 opposte directions.

i also wrote about how the envioronment i grew up in has shaped me to be a strong perservering leader and how people see me as a leader not because of my large frame ( i am 6’4) but because of the attidude i have when i am in the room.

how my parents accident coupled with my volunteering at the hospital has changed my outlook on life and how i found my true calling which is medicine because God has blessed me with intelligence and lots of empathy towards the needy and weak.

i also included in my essay a great quote from one of a famous surgeon (i am drawing a blank on his name right now) but it said " i was never the smartest in med school, but what i lacked in ability i made up with through discipline." i think this quote really applies to me and i explained why.

you’re looking good so far, might want to retake the act just to be safe, and you need two satIIs (although maybe you don’t if you take the act? i’d look into that). i’m applying here too this fall, maybe i’ll see you there! what are you planning on majoring in?

Forzworn: no i do not need 2 subject tests. I definately wanna be a Doctor when i grow up but that doesn’t force me to become a biosci major. i haven’t decided on a major yet. i could become human physio or pursue history, anthro, econ i have a lot of diverse interests and plan to pursue them before med school. Is it easy to switch from and to the CAS and sargents?

1) Only retake the ACT if you really want to or if you think your essays may be week ( the seem quite solid though).

2) Intra university transfer is pretty easy if you aren’t placed into CGS(unlikely for you) and if you contact the school about it before Freshman Orientation ( supposedly it’s not that hard after you enroll either).

3) Subject test are not required. They are advantageous for credit/placement.

BU2014: i know CGS stands for the college of general studies, why is being placed there so bad? and why is it unlikely that i will be placed there?
Shot- I never practice and i just dont like it im not very motivated to do well- 40ft.
Discus- 145 ft

It’s not necessarily bad. CGS means that maybe you didn’t quite have the grades to get into the school you wanted or the school thinks you might need extra help, but BU still wanted you to come so they put you in CGS. You’re very restricted in what classes you can take from what I hear for the first two years and if you to well enough you can move onto the school you applied to.

Your profile looks pretty much good to me. Just make sure you maintain good grades for the first semester of senior year. They don’t have to be exemplary, just enough for college admins to see that you have made steady improvement throughout the course of your 4 years in high school.

and PS, DONT start senioritis right off the bat. i know some people who jumped straight into the senioritis pool at the end of quarter 1.

CGS isn’t bad. Some of the other students have simply put a negative spin on it. You are restricted on what you take in CGS, it’s kind of like CORE in the College of Arts and Science. There are negatives and positives for that. Negative: No choice in what you study. Positive: you end up with the the General Ed requirements for any school so you aren’t behand. This is especially advantageous if you arent sure of what you want to do. It’s unlikely that you will end up there because you’re stats are quite on target with students admited into their school of choice within BU.

If you really get into the throws and improve, it is quite possible for you to score some athletic aid. And if you are concerned ( you really shouldnt be) athletics are a great way to ensure a spot at BU.

haha i think you’re really overestimating how hard it is to get in. I got into BU (NOT CGS, I might add, but the school of my choice) with a 28 ACT , 1810 combined SAT and by no means perfect grades. 2 D’s on my transcript & 6 C’s. (this is semester grades over the 4 years). seriously, it’s not that hard to get into. if i can anybody can.

@njgur: BU may not be very hard to get into. However, it sounds a little like you are taking things for granted. My friend is a good student with mostly As and a few Bs in her transcript. She also has decent extracurricular activities, medium ACT score and still got wait listed The admission progress is somewhat unpredictable. So it is not like anybody can get in easily. After all, BU is still a selective school. @Future: your stats are good. Dont be worry. And pre-med is a challenging program but it is not too intense. So you can certainly fit other activities like sports and clubs into your schedule. U should enjoy ur college life as well :)

I think you have a really good chance at BU. 3.5 gpa is not bad at all with all of those AP classes you have taken, well done. Your ACT score is just fine, i think BU average is around 29-32. I’d say you’re in.
