BU Class of 2021 RD Discussion Thread

do you just google bu housing?

ahhh I’m so stressed

i have access denied
i hope this doesn’t mean i’m rejected

There was mention on this thread that last year some individuals who had the ‘access denied’ at the housing portal were admitted. I checked (p. 11 of the RD 2020 thread) and read a few of the posts of individuals on that page to see if they got in. I looked at three. Two were admitted with presidential scholarships and one was wait listed. I do think those that were able to access the housing portal have had their updates completed and are in my opinion, with as high a probability as one could have without a letter in hand, going to get good news tomorrow. The rest may not yet have updated so ‘access denied’ may not yet mean anything. I also noticed that last year there were updates done on Thursday at the same time as yesterday and then there were updates to portals for others on Friday so it could be the portals update today for some. We’ll all know soon enough so hopefully everyone can find a way to enjoy the day and tomorrow will be here soon enough.

Like I said before getting Access Denied doesn’t really tell much since the Housing System most likely has not been updated for all new students. No Idea why some students have been updated but most likely they have something in common that makes them the results of some population selection criteria. Maybe they are new students that have Finaid status complete with no merit awards, or no need-based award, specific college, major, etc could be anything and may have been a mistake to update this early.

Got into NU.in, but rejected from BC. My portal has “Thank you…” and I can access the housing portal, but it says nothing about a “new student”. Does BU care a lot about demonstrated interest? It’s my number one but I lost hope after being rejected from BC

I tweeted the BU admissions Office in regards to the Housing portal they just told me that they in fact open the portal for testing so If you got in while the testing happend you were authenticated but essentially all you re seeing is a test page and so I would not trust the housing portal. The test page is a mock of the real one so that is why some saw the new students and some didn’t the were trying to see if everything uploaded smoothly for when real decision time comes hope this helps.

I feel somewhat relieved! Can you post the tweet?

@RedSox98 Thank you for that! I got deferred ED, and was beginning to lose hope over this housing thing, so that’s good to hear!

@brraedyn me too that’s why I wanted to verify I was already freaking out.

@MissAnthropy - that is perfect!

They won’t admit even if the data is real.

BU Admissions just tweeted this:

@srk2017 I agree we should take it with a grain of salt. However, the explanation does make sense you want to test your platform so that it doesn’t crash or has bugs when traffic because to high ans stresses the server out causing a crah in the system.

I mean I was able to log onto the housing portal last year and I saw that it said new student and then I was accepted. So, if your housing portal says new student then you’re most likely accepted.

@redsox98 - You don’t do to testing day before official release

guys. please listen to the tweets bu sends out instead of listening to speculations. we have no idea if there is any correlation between your admission decision and the housing portal thing. i’d say there isn’t any correlation, based on bu’s tweet.

Also, take into account that BU probably said that because they don’t want people to freak out.

There are clearly two strong opinions here: 1) Portal access tells you everything and 2) Portal access is not indicative and people getting access was due to testing. As expected, those that have access are strong believers in #1, while those who do not have access are strong defenders of #2.

Only time will tell.
