Hey, can someone outline the major differences and advantages/disadvantages of the 14 plus, 9 plus, 330, and 250 plans? If you’re a student, which plan do you have? Why/why not would you recommend it?

Also, and very importantly, could someone explain the different types of points and how they’re used with the plans? I’ve read the BU site concerning this, and it isn’t very clear. Plus, I find that speaking to students is always very helpful.

I have the 250 plan. I used to have the 14Plus plan and that felt like a waste to me. You got 14 meals a weak but they expire if you don’t use them. I like take-out so I used my dining points up really fast and then spent lots of money on take-out. I like the 250 because you get a set number of meals per semester and they don’t expire until the end of the semester so you can use them at your convenience. It also comes with lots of dining points. <3 Dining points can be used at all the restaurants at the GSU (Rhett’s, Jamba Juice, Starbucks, Domino’s, Panda Express, etc).

This fall semester runs from Sept 2 to Dec 20. Thats about 110 days, so in this case without dining points, the 250 plan provides more meals than the 14plus plan (210 over the same period).
So how many dining points come with each (the 250 and 14plus) plan? And which plan do you think most students prefer?

14 plus means you get 14 meals a week. which is like 2 all you can eat meals a day, so you can use dining points for breakfast and then have an all you can eat meal for lunch and dinner every day. personally i think that’s too many all you can eat meals …

9 plus is the same thing but with 9 meals a day so you can do an all you can eat meal per day and two on weekends. that sounds pretty nice

personally all you can eat meals aren’t my favorite things and i don’t want the freshman 15 so i went for the 250 plan.

anyway, dining plan arent a big deal. you can change your plan if u want to

The dining point cost is included in the overall far right cost. The far right cost is what you pay for the dining plan. You have no choice to get a $4,280 plan if you live on campus (not in an apartment). The Unlimited and Kosher plans cost about $300 more though.

It’s just a matter of how many meals vs. dining points for each one. I did 14+ last year. I liked it, but I’m going to do 250 this semester. I hated that meals didn’t roll over week for week. Even if I wasn’t at BU for a long weekend, I’d still have 14 meals that I obviously wouldn’t use for the shortened week. It’s good if you’re getting used to the schedule though. Dining points are great…especially with a slight coffee addiction (Starbucks at the GSU accepts them!)

When I had that plan I felt stretched. D: I used them up fast at Late Nite because I lived at Hojo and we don’t have a dining hall, only a cafe where you can use points. Plus, if you didn’t use all 14 that week they didn’t roll over and you just lost them. Sometimes I just didn’t feel like eating dining hall food and wanted some fast food. >_<

Yeah, I definitely monitored my dining points pretty carefully. I hated losing meals too, which is why I’m switching over this year. I’d rather have some more dining points and less meals (since like Nickel pointed out, you can’t even use all of the 14+ ones).

Either way, you can switch your dining plan up to 11 weeks into the semester though. So pick whichever and see how it’s working out for you later.
