So I was recently accepted ED to BU for CAS as a computer science major, and I have a question to all current or former students: which of the two freshmen dorms are better? Quality of the dorms? Distance from class? and lastly the social aspect of each dorm.
Better dorm for proximity to CAS is Warren, which is the most popular/fun freshman dorm. Butttt West has a better dining hall, IMO. I was in West freshman year (randomly assigned when I didn’t get into German House as a frosh) and while getting all the way to COM could be annoying, it was still a nice place to live. Less crazy/party-ish than Warren and that dining hall… West is also closer to FitRec if you see yourself working out a lot.
West has a better dining hall, BUT Warren’s dining hall was renovated this past summer so it’s nice too. Also, the Bay State dining hall is a short walk from Warren, and it’s by far the best dining hall. I lived in Warren freshman year. I thought it would be crazy and party-ish, and trust me, it’s NOT. The West dorms have nicer furniture, but that’s about it. Warren dorms are much larger and every floor on Warren has a common room which is nice. Not that it should matter to me, but I actually get annoyed when people say that the West dorms are bigger than Warren. In West, the dressers are placed under the beds because there’s not enough space in the room for two beds, two desks, and two dressers. So in Warren, you can store your suitcases, plastic bins, etc. under your bed. I would only choose West if you’re in CGS or CFA (which you’re not) or if you like to work out a lot at FitRec. I’m a sophomore in Questrom right now- PM me if you have any more questions!
you’re gonna wanna go for Warren (trust me). West campus is the fun campus but in terms of proximity, Warren is gonna be across the street from most of your classes. I live in Warren right now (I’m a freshmen in CAS studying modern intellectual history) and it’s great! I have a ton of friends who regret living in West (It’s a 20+ min walk and in the rain/snow, you’re gonna have to MOW people down to get on the shuttle). Not worth it. Remember, you can always walk to west whenever. Classes, on the other hand, are 5 days a week. Warren rooms are MUCH bigger too and the vibe is a lot more low-key.
