I'm a freshman at BU this year and am looking to transfer to NYU for sophomore year.
I got in to NYU as a high school senior but stupidly turned it down (money and some other issues), but as nice as BU is, my heart is still set on NYU.
I'm in CAS as undecided at BU, but thinking of majoring in communications & media. Would it be better/easier to transfer into NYU's CAS as undecided or to Steinhardt's Media, Culture & Communications major?
And will the fact that I got in to NYU as a high school senior year but didn't go help me? Or hurt me?
Suggestions? Help? Something, please?

You’re bound to the NYU division you apply to for ONE YEAR after you are accepted.

I transferred to Steinhardt and got in with a 3.4 and a few impressive ECs, with a competitive, but not amazing high school record. I’m in the MCC major now. Just apply to Steinhardt straight- it’s easier to get in to than CAS.

Getting in during high school definitely helps- it means they felt you were qualified the first time.

someone please correct me if Im wrong, but from what I know about NYU, you will get even less money if you go as a transfer student. So if money was the issue the first time around, it may be even bigger one as a transfer.

That’s most schools. Most schools give less money for transfer students than they do regular students.

Thanks for the responses.
I really don’t know what to do.
I think you’re right about the less money for transfers thing, I’ve heard the same thing.

heyy missamericanpie:
Im looking at transfering to NYU as well for sophomore year.
what is the difference between the MCC major and the Journalism major in CAS?

journalism: much more competitive program, grooms you for actually working as a journalist, much more involved in the industry
MCC: more versatile, and you are studying media rather than writing or generating it. Steinhardt is easier to get in to.

If money is an issue, look around for more schools where you’ll be likely to get some. NYU as a transfer will indeed be unlikely to give you much aid. Look at schools that meet need.
