Hello! I’m a female senior in California and I am flying out in mid-October to Boston.

a) Living in So-Cal I’m not used to cold. Could someone tell me what the weather in the fall is like? Will I need heavy jackets or will a sweater do?

b) I’m attending a campus tour and information session, but is there anything special I should do to really get a feel of the school?

Any information is helpful, thank you!!!

Fall is one of the best times to visit Boston, it is very very beautiful in the fall. You will not need a heavy jacket (like a ski coat), just bring a regular jacket that you would wear in Socal in the fall. Boston is not too cold in mid-October (it wont be freezing!). I would strongly suggest going to a hockey team, BU is a HUGE hockey school and you will definitely get a good vibe on the school spirit of BU at a hockey game, BU plays 5 home hockey games in early to mid October. If i were u i would check out other colleges around BU because your flying from pretty far away, check out Northeastern, BC, Tufts, MIT, and Harvard. If your interested in LACs, head up to Maine and check out Bates, Colby, Bowdoin.

I’d also suggest sitting in the student union for a while and wandering around the whole campus after the tour (especially West Campus, which you won’t see!). Going to a hockey game might be fun, you can pick up tickets down there in the Agganis Arena ticket office in West if you happen to come on a game weekend.

Since one of the best part of going to school in Boston is Boston itself, I would take time to visit downtown Boston, Quincy Market, the Waterfront, Walk along the Esplanade, the Back Bay and Beacon Hill. Take a Duck Boat tour, it’s a fun way to see and get the feel of Boston. Definitely walk the full campus from Bay State Road up to West Campus to get the feel of what it’s like to attend school and definitely people watch to see the type of students who you would be attending college with. It appears that you might be touring BU when the Head of the Charles Crew Race is going on which is quite impressive to watch as well.

I agree that you should also check out the other schools in the Boston area. They each have a unique feel.

My daughter attends BU from South Florida and visited in late October. It was the equivalent of our winter there, so she wore a polar fleece jacket and was comfortable. I would definitely spend some times around campus before/after the tour, the student union is a great place to start! And I agree with those who said to check out the area, Boston is a great city to visit as a tourist!

BiologyDr…what part of California? I live in San Diego and I am applying for Fall 2014
