I have a few days to make this decision. Is BU comparable academically to CMU at all? Will I suffer for going to BU (there is a significant difference in the Newsweek rankings)? Any input would be extremely helpful.

CMU?
Carnegie Mellon University?
Central Michigan University?
Central Methodist University?
California Miramar University?

And, what field of study? Schools can be very strong in one subject, but weak in another.

Carnegie Mellon, most likely in astronomy and physics/computational mathematics

Carnegie Mellon, hands down. I’m not sure the academics are comparable, but CMU actually looks to have much more in-depth programs than BU. CMU is less than 1/2 the size of BU and has an actual campus.

I would pick CMU over BU in those areas but BU is still pretty good. If one gives better aid than the other, I would consider that one. Both have nice urban locations with other universities next door.

There’s a pretty significant gap between Carnegie Mellon and Boston University in CMU’s favor if you’re talking rankings.

CMU is for all intents and purposes like MIT and Caltech in another state. That should tell you everything.
