I'm a sophomore transfer, and I got accepted to BU and GWU. I also got accepted to NYU, my first choice, but I haven't heard about financial aid yet so I might not be going there. The financial aid I got from BU and GWU are practically identical. I was leaning toward BU, but GWU apparently has a fixed tuition and gives money in the form of renewable scholarships rather than grants, which seems more secure. I'm majoring in psychology with pre-med. Which school would be better? Thanks!

GW has better financial aid, better location (DC kicks Boston’s ass), much better dorms, better campus (two campuses actually), and better internship opportunities. GW is the only way to go.

GW and Bu are quite comparable–academically it won’t make a difference. Both have decent medical schools and reasonable research opportunities. The psychology departments are comparable. The demographics of the student bodies at both places are quite similar.

Both cities are great–but different. Having lived in both, I certainly wouldn’t say that “DC kicks Boston’s ass.” Boston has a much stronger intellectual and scholarly life. DC is about politics, politics, politics. If you thrive on politics, you’ll love GW. If you don’t enjoy politics, you might hate GW. The DC scene grows old quickly; it is a very transient environment. People come for 4-8 years and leave. The federal buildings and monuments are impressive and beautiful–but how many times do you think you’ll visit the White House? Once you’ve seen them all, it becomes just another city.

Boston is much more of a “home town” type place. Much stronger sense of community than DC. And, since you’re interested in medicine, Boston is a world renown medical center; DC is not. People who are really sick in DC go to Baltimore for treatment.

If you are into sports–then its Boston all the way.
