Bucket Full Of Questions!

Alright I'm attending Fall term at UCSC as a frosh...Whoop-di-Friggin'-Do right?

Yeah...but I gotta get through Class Enrollment First...DAMN!

Okay...hopefully someone who knows what they're talking about will Reply, but I don't give a damn as long as I get some answers cause I'm not attending Orientation. Gasps Yeah, I've the dulled in the brain so much that I wasn't willing to let the School mooch another 200+ dollars from me to show me stuff I can figure out within a week of living there. So without that crutch of an Adviser aiding me, I'm gonna need all yall's know-all. Please and thank yous!

Anyways...I have some questions about Class Enrollment...and here they are:

1) So I am selecting 3 classes? 1 will be the Core class?
2) I heard there was no Biology first quarter or some prerequisite for the class?
3) I took 4 AP tests in High school and passed em all, according to that booklet the mailman brought me, I'm exempt from 1 "1H" 1 "1N" and 1"A" course. So the AP Biology test exempted me from the "1N" course...is it alright if I still take the Intro Biology course?
4) I'm going to be filling my Classes online, what are my chances of getting the classes I want? And what will happen if I don't get into those classes? Will they contact me about choosing other courses...or will the screw me over and put me in the Choir?

I may have more questions regarding classes...but I can't think of it now, but PLEASE lend this kid a hand and maybe leave a AIM where I can chat with someone who has insights and I can get rapid replies.

Next set of Questions really didn't make my priority of "WHAT THE *****!?" questions...So I'll lay em right down here:

1) Who's staying in College 9 and/or 10 (I don't know how you can stay at both...but I don't give a damn)?
2) Who's willing to make contact with me beforehand so we don't enter college scared, cold, alone, and a little bit violated?
3) How many of yall entered the Housing pool with the "Random Roomate" ticket and is scared ****less?
4)How many people think this post is too damn long? (I sure as hell do, but I can't sleep so what am I going to do with myself!)

5) Anyone can recommend a decent humble little laptop that would work for the general college tasks?

Once again...I hope someone can give me some decent replies and thanks for whoever tried. I'm mainly looking for some tips for the first set of questions...but if you can answer the second ones, GOOD FOR YOU! I'll give ya a sticker when I see you. But seriously, thanks...and it'll be nice to chat with some fellow Slugs before I immerse myself into the campus life.

-Jack

Hi Jack! I sense a lot of sarcasm in your 1st paragraph... and a lot of funny frases in the rest of your post. I jsut came back from orientation today (the 12th).

FIRST SET OF Q'S --
1) Yes, three 5-credit classes. Yes, one will be your core. (by the way, I have questions about that & the ELWR -- I'll ask in the end)

2) For whatever bio, you need Gen Chem 1A & 1B BEFORE taking Bio20A. So that means you need to take the bio placement, before winter quarter, so you can see if you need Bio3: concepts in biology.

3) Lucky you! I failed them all. Yes, you can probably take that intro class, but why? Just to refresh and have a stable background? With a passing AP score, you can place into 20A anways.

4) HAHA. You'll have to be flexible with your times, like if 8AM is the only one open, you can't say eww and sleep in. If you enroll early, chances are you'll get them. If not, you can always try to add/drop/swap. If you don't get your classes, you gotta do something else that at least adds up to 15 credits. It's your own responsibility to enroll & make sure you have 15. (Plus, don't you have to have 15 in order to stay in the dorms?)

you can contact me @ soPRISCILLAsaid. I feel like an expert already :]

SECOND SET OF Q'S --
1) I'm in C9. You can't stay in both, the University jsut groups those two together 'cus they're closest together. That's my theory. (Which ONE are you in?)

2) You got my contact right above.

3) I chose random roommate, and I'm scared to death. I don't want someone who takees pictures of me while I sleep, or uses my stuff without permission. I chose random because I want a new experience, but being scared is alright. I think. Plus, if you get a freaky roommmate, you can alwasy change after 2 weeks, or during the swap period.

4) I tihnk it is, but we all have our questions. Take sleeping pills, they'll help you.

5) I need one too. I have no idea what brand, but jsut get something with on-tech support so if something breaks, they come to you instead.

Priscilla

JEBUS Priscilla you've really quelled much of the concerns I had! Whoo! You get a sticker when I meet you...maybe not, depending on if my lunch fruit has any stickers. DOLE ANYONE!?

Anyways...Thanks, and you sure as hell sound like a well informed frosh. I'm staying at College 10 and I look forward to chatting with you. My AIM is on that Forum Profile mc-jigger....so yup Thanks.

ANYONE ELSE WANNA POST SOME STUFF, PLEASE I AM IN NO SURPLUS OF INFORMATION!!!

The poster above answered your first set of questions very nicely. I havent been to orientation.. so i am a bit iffy on that stuff.

Anywho.

Second set of questions:
1. I am going to college 10. Besides, college 10 and 9 are practically the same and do stuff together.. so no diff really
2. facebook me "AK Sidhu" I will be more than happy to talk to you. You sound like an interesting and funny person.
3.Yeah i dont know anyone from my school [that well] who is going to ucsc. I am really hoping my roommate isnt the preppy, drunk whore who parties all night.. because i am the complete opposite of that.
4. Sleep is for taco bell eaters..
5. I suggest the macbook [its a beautiful machine]. With this great deal you get 100 dollars off the macbook, free 4 gig ipod nano, and free printer.

I like stickers =]

hope to see you at ucsc !!!

Hm, I'll just also reply to the second set of questions:

1) Am going to college 9...
2) Me, I'm terrified of the US in general and college there in particular... Ah well, not really really, but kinda (am from the Netherlands by the way..).. Anyways, if you wantto: can find me on faceboek under Moesa Tselms
3) AAH! YES! TOTALLY! AAH! The idea of a roommate scares me anyways, never thought I'd have one (at home we don't do roommates...) AAH! And, not knowing anyone going to SC I did not really have a choice but having a random one...
4) Long posts are nice, it kinda helps overcome boredome...
5) No.. I got an IBM (cause my dad is a fanatic believer of the fact that that is absolutel the very best possible brand for computers and bought it for me... I couldnt care less..)

Okay, guess that was it... I still have my stickerbook from primary school, so I am definetely expecting that sticker!

Moesa

HI AK and MOESA!!!! This is friggin awesome!

I was afraid there'd be lots of pricks and anti-social wankers going into the first year, but atleast I know I'd be around a few friendly people amongst all the pricks and anti-social wankers. Moesa, you're from the Netherlands...Jebus that's flippin' awesome. I'd like to meet someone that hasn't been brainwashed by the US system. Look forward to meeting you all.

ONCE AGAIN MORE ANSWERS ARE EXTREMELY WELCOME! I'M COLD AND LONELY HELP A FELLOW SLUGGER OUT!

TrueMusou, I went to the orientation on the 12th. Believe me, there aren't any 'anti-social wankers' at UCSC (at least from what I could tell). Everyone was very open and friendly.

Hey hye345,

Regarding my first set of questions...did you hear or see anything that contradicted Priscilla's answers or is she spot on?

What college are you staying at by the way?

TrueMusou, Priscilla covered the first 3 questions pretty well. I'll just comment on the forth one:

As Priscilla said, if you enroll early, you will probably get your classes (unless they are restricted for whatever reason, of course). However, you should still have a few backup classes. Be careful with the whole add/swap/drop thing, since it might get complicated if you don't do it right.

Also, you don't have to have 15 credits, its just a recommendation. You can have up to 19 or as little as 12 without prior approval.

BTW, I'm in Cowell.

I looked back at Priscilla's answer of 2 and 3. I'm a bit confused about that.

So, I passed the AP BIO, does that still mean I have to take the Chem 1A & 1B before taking BIO 20A?

Also, I thought BIO 20A WAS the intro course...cause I don't see another one, but I could be wrong cause this book is fandango-ing my brain.

A clarification would be great...cause if it works out, I have the Core Class, Biology, and some other class nailed down as my first choices...Then I hope this class enrollment thing is good to me.

Bio 3 is the intro class.

Thanks Juniorita,
Yeah, I actually looked through the handbook and found that hehe...

In my research I'm become super discouraged about the classes cause i'm on the Class Schedule thing online and I see a lot of the classes I wanna take are almost full....DAMN! Still there's practically a month left till MY registration opens....DAMN!

Help me Superman! ....I mean, HELP ME BATMAN! (Cause he's more bad-ass). Now that I've figured out how to deal with this class thing...I'm now learning that my planning could all go into the dumps. Looks like I'm going to be in Choir or some other unpopular class like Intro to Knitting....I dunno.

I'm going further grow out my hair and become Emo unless someone gives me news that would say otherwise.

CHEERS SLUGGERS!

haha you forgot help me tom cruise [taladega nights]

I hate picking classes... its a pain in the ass. So many different timings.. confuses the heck out of me... ugh.

I would hate to see chem 1a full.. i really really really really need to take that class...

Yeah i wanna take Chem 1A too...but I also wanna take BIO 20A...GAH they're all almost full.

Any of you guys not pass or have the EWLR/AWPE unsatisfied?

I passed the EWLR, why?

I've been Satisfied...in every single way =P

All kidding aside, yeah I passed the EWLR...AND got a 3 on AP English Comp. Which is complete BULL ****! UC Charged me the 65 dollars for the EWLR even before I had a chance to take and receive my AP score for English. If I had taken/received the AP score I wouldn't have paid the 65 dollars for a test I never needed to take. GAH! It's robbery I tell ya!

That's why I didn't want to take it in May. I was hoping for a 3 on my AP Lit. But I hoped wrong! :[ Lucky you.

=( it's alright, I doubt you're missing much since we're all going to the SAME lectures....whOO! gonna be fun!

AWWW This sucks...Chem 1a is closed according to that one Searchable Course Site from UCSC!
