Bucknell Legacy

My mom went to Bucknell. Will this help me at all during admissions? I know some schools do everything they can to get legacies. Is Bucknell one of them?

Yes. Although I do not think they ask on the application any more, you can definitely get the info conveyed.

My oldest child (legacy and accepted) was asked about legacy on the application.

My youngest child applied and was not asked. However, she mentioned it in one of her essays. She actually is a third generation and certainly was going to let that be known as well.

She was accepted and is now senior.

Ray

Okay thanks! Is there a way to list yourself as a legacy on the Common App without putting it in your essay?

I wouldn’t want to really write an essay specific to Bucknell and exclude other places to hurt my chances.

I do not think she mentioned it in a common app essay. She mentioned it in some Bucknell essay.

You definitely want to let them know you’re a legacy. Your parent or whomever can complete a form on the BU website about you. I was told this spring that the legacy admission rate is 50%, so it gives you some boost but you are not a shoo-in!
