Budget Cuts, CA Bankruptcy, etc.

After all the protests and the California budget crisis, how has Berkeley been affected by the economic problems?

Class size changes?
Professors teaching less?
Fewer laboratory experiences?
Student Services?

I just want to know since UW also has many budget cuts, and I want to see how bad it is at Berkeley.

There’s been a lot of threads about this. Personally, I have noticed no changes. Tuition fees were increased, but I get financial aid for that.

The food in the dining commons got a bit worse, but I’ve noticed that they’ve been improving.

i have not noticed any changes.

haha i really doubt the food is related to this, it was the same thing last year.

i can think of lots of things…

not as many classes are offered. the ones that are offered often restrict to majors only so it’s hard to take them (e.g., IB pretty much refuses to let mcb majors take their classes that some of us really need in order to get into opt/pharm/nursing school). fewer lab sections true also. trash isn’t taken out on a daily basis in offices/dry labs (not for class, but the ones for research). staff are cut from administrative positions, which then must be absorbed by professors, thus decreasing the amount of time they spend on their research.

Oh they had to cut down on janitorial staff, so there’s not enough janitors to drag the students that died of overwork off the roads to class every morning. It’s getting to be really an eyesore.
