Hi There,
If you have lived in Bursley, could you please share any beforehand knowlegde that you think would be helpful for incoming freshman. For instance, do they provide bookshelf, dresser, closet? What were some of the most helpful room items that you had, bought or wish you had? (TV and gamming systems excluded) :) We are coming from out of state, so hoping to pack efficiently. Also do you advice purchasing things once arrive in Ann Arbor or are the local Targets, Walmarts etc store all picked over by that time. Do you recommend renting fridge/micro. Did you use them? Is there wifi or did you use ethernet?

Thanks for sharing your experience and advice.

We are in the exact same situation…Bursley… coming from out of state. Any advice you have would be appreciated!

I lived in a double in Lewis Hall, which was on the East side of Bursley. My room came with a bed (with mattress), desk, and a drawer that could be arranged into a loft bed. There was a small closet on each side of the room. I bought most of my stuff at Ann Arbor (pillow, bed sheets, hangers, etc). I’d suggest buying stuff here, especially if you’re coming from out of state. A lot of the stores will have back to school specials. Rented a fridge, was pretty useful for storing snacks and stuff. There was wifi in the room (as well as the hallways, lounge, etc.) You can borrow a vacuum from the Community Center, I wouldn’t recommend buying one, since it’s heavy and bulky.

One thing I found useful was stocking up on hangers. Saves the hassle of folding clothes if you just hang them after you wash them.

There might be different things in each room (i.e. My friend didn’t have building block furniture, and I think his room came with a mini bookshelf. Another friend didn’t have wifi and had to use ethernet), so you won’t know for sure until you see the actual room.
