I've heard about bus transportation from MSU to certain places in Lansing.
I don't plan on having a car on campus and i will probably be working at the mall, so i was just wondering if the bus goes from the campus to the mall and how much does it cost?

Check out [CATA – Capital Area Transportation Authority is the public transportation provider in Lansing, MI](http://www.cata.org).
This is the bus system at MSU.
I know a semester pass is $50 and that pass takes you all over campus and in town(to the mall).

You are planning on working at the Lansing mall? Yikes…any bus going down lansing-ways has some, err…interesting folks. I’d try to find employment at meridian mall, a much safer area (and relatively close as well…meridian is the mall most people go to). Frandor shopping center is also close-by, but I think there is not 1 bus that goes all the way to frandor, you’d have to take a transfer or 2. I don’t know about the lansing mall, but bus 1 goes from right off campus on grand river to meridian mall (buses 22/23 also go to meridian mall from an on-campus stop but they take a lot longer route).

With your student ID (without a bus pass) it costs $0.60. Without your student ID it is $1.25 each way.

I work at A&F right now and i want to transfer to the A&F that’s the closest to campus and most convenient for me.

Is there any free bus transportation for MSU students?

^^ no free bus transportation at MSU, unfortunately.

I’m pretty sure the only Abercrombie & Fitch in the area is in Meridian mall, which is not in Lansing but the opposite direction (Okemos) just fyi :)

In order to get there you’d take bus 1 from grand river to the last stop which is meridian mall, the bus comes about every 10 minutes typically.

wow forget that! I just wanted to transfer there because A&F is such an easy job and there hours are really flexible. I’ll just work on campus instead.

That is a good thing if it is in the Meridian Mall! It is closer and easier to get to.

Yeah I’d highly recommend working on campus, you don’t have to worry about using the bus and they are generally a lot more flexible on campus about class/school-related stuff. Don’t work off campus at Meridian unless you have a car

I’ll just work on campus but I’m still going to get the CATA bus pass so i can ride the bus to my classes during winter and when ever i want to go anywhere around the city.

One more question- I heard you have to pay a membership fee to use any of the the gyms on campus?? Is this true cause all other schools I’ve visited have free gym access for the students.

^ Yes, you have to pay to use the gyms- except (I believe) if you use some of the ones in your dorm (not sure if all dorms have them).

And at most colleges, you do pay a fee- but everyone pays it whether they use the gyms or not (it’s just part of the standard fees). At MSU, it’s only the people who actually use the facilities. I believe it’s $80 per semester or $3 each time you visit.

^to clarify, you can use a lot of the gym for free (ie the tennis/racketball courts) you just have to have your student ID and your own equipment (or have to rent it out from the main desk). The outdoor pool costs $1 to get in. (I’m talking about IM west, the biggest gym on campus - I’m not familiar with the specifics of other gyms)
Wonderbodies in Wonders also costs money, but my friends sneak in for free ALL the time and never get caught. There are basketball courts and tennis courts right outside south complex that are also free.

By gym i was talking about a weight room/place to workout.

I saw that mcdonel hall has a fitness room, would that be free to me since i’m a residence of mcdonel. I was also told that there’s rumors about mcdonel’s gym being shut down, is this true??

^ I haven’t heard of that. Not to say it isn’t happening, I just don’t hear much about McDonel. I would assume it’s free, but don’t quote me…

That is what I assumed you meant by gym though.

I’m so sorry for being annoying with my questions but i have another one. So i just switched halls to wonder, and someone above said that students have to pay to get into wonders gym… Well do you have to pay even if you live in wonders??
