Bus Taking Princeton Students to Yale Football Game Lost Its Brake and Crashed Into a Building

Wow good on your son for taking quick action to help others and glad he’s alright!

He appeared as a totally together kid. You should be proud! Thanks be that he was not injured.

What an incredible scare for your son, your family. Really happy to know that he is well. Seems like he is a thoughtful, wonderful human being.

Good for your son! How frightening - I hope everyone will be OK soon!

How frightening for you! I am so glad your son is okay and that you got to confirm this with your own eyes.

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts. I believe everyone’s okay, including the driver who is in “fair” condition. I don’t know whether he’s now out of the hospital or not. Everyone on that bus owes him huge gratitude. If it hadn’t been for his heroic maneuvering of the bus that was out of control due to brake failure, who knows how the incident would have turned out. I can only imagine far worse and deadly. My son and other kids came out of this with mere scratches and perhaps some bruises all thanks to this driver.

My son happened to sit at the front of the bus when the accident occurred, so it was natural that he was the first to check on the driver after the crash. I’m of course very proud of my son. He’s always been a nice kid.

Your son speaks well & looks healthy & alert.

Lower back pain & neck pain, however, can occur one, two or three days after a crash. Hard to believe, but I have first hand experience. Encourage him to buy over the counter pain relief & Aspercreme or similar lotion as these things seem to reveal themselves late at night right after the local drug stores close.

Thanks, @Publisher, for your kind thoughts. I’m going to keep a close eye on him for the next few days and see if his condition changes.

If you’re not embarrassed to tell your son you go on CC, let him know he has a lot of fans here now. I’m glad that he’s okay and impressed that he was able to react so well in the emergency.

@rosered55

Thanks. Truth be told, I do a lot of things without my son’s awareness because some of the things I do or say would indeed embarrass him, BUT my going on CC?? I don’t think that’s one of them, but I’ll tell you one classic sample of how I embarrassed him one time, though, for fun but absolutely true:

One day when he was in middle school, he came home and asked me whether I was at his school that day. Surprised that he knew I was indeed at his school that day, I asked him, “how did you know?”

He responded by saying that one of his friends at the school told him that he saw “one pissed off Asian man in the school building that day.”

Your son is very impressive–so happy he is ok, and sorry you had to go through this stressful situation.

Glad he’s ok. I’m sure some Wawa is on the menu for tonight :wink:

Thank you, @periwinkle4. The weirdest thing about this is the fact that I got to see my son – all by chance while Internet surfing to learn more about the bus crash – not during the recent fall break nor the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday because he won’t be coming home then, either, but in some far away local TV station video covering what could have turned out to be tragic. It STILL felt great to see him irregardless of the circumstance involved.

@eb23282

Trust me, he’s been visiting Wawa way more than I’d anticipated judging by my credit card trail… Twice in one day, too… :slight_smile:

Glad your son and everyone is ok. Smart kid.

I just read in The Daily Princetonian the following statements that concerned me deeply:

“During the weekly USG [Undergrad Student Government] meeting that took place on Sunday at 8 p.m.[the day after the accident], Dunne stated that the University would continue to use Coach USA buses, at the very least for the USG-sponsored Thanksgiving buses. From a safety perspective, I think that it’s important not to take one isolated incident and extrapolate it out that somehow it’s not a safe option,’ Dunne said.”

No word on the bus company’s accountability nor the immediate need to do thorough inspection for any potential mechanical failures with the rest of the buses the company’s running or whatever…
