I was recently accepted off of the wait list at Georgia Tech for business. Can anyone share their experience as a business major at Georgia Tech? What kind of placement opportunities were available? Did you feel different studying business at a primarily engineering school?
It has an excellent Business school. Many great opportunities. GT and GSU are both phenomenal business schools actually (despite how people will come on this thread and say GT is better than GSU). The business schools takes from the recognition of GT’s engineering school, and they have become one of the larger schools now. Studying Business at an Engineering school means you’ll have a good chance at working in Business at an Engineering company. I didn’t attend GT, but work there, and interact with many Business majors (both former and present).
I’ve heard that GT’s 4 yr graduation rate is only 40% and that the courses are extremely rigorous and difficult, does is that the same as the business majors? For someone planning on in concentrating in finance or accounting, how hard would it be? And why are they called concentrations not majors??
The graduation rate is 40% mainly because Engineering is difficult, but also because many people do Co-Ops, including lots of business majors. A Co-Op is when you work somewhere for a semester and get paid and then study the next semester and then do that for a couple of years. Anyways, the business program at Tech is fantastic. I don’t personally major in it, but everyone I know who does has ended up with amazing internships and jobs. Also, there is only one major: Business Administration. However, you can get concentrations within that major (AKA things you want to specialize in, which in your case would be finance or accounting).
