What is the typical gpa most transfers into McCombs have? 3.6? I'm looking to double major

Are you internal or external? To have a good shot AT LEAST 3.7 internal and 3.8 external.
I’m trying to transfer as well. What majors?

No it takes a 3.4 for internal transfer not AT LEAST a 3.7

Can’t double major at McCombs, unless you’re BHP (or wanted to major at another college in UT).

@sketchoutdude I’m saying to have a good shot to get in. But you’re right, the minimum to be considered is a 3.4. I should have specified.

internal, I’m currently an econ major at Texas in the Lib Arts school.

oh woops my bad jammyd i misread the data

internal around a 3.5 and external, as high as possible…usually nothing less than a 3.7 or 3.8. It also depends on how much of the recommended courses you have completed…such as calculus 1 & 2 etc…they are listed. I know a 4.0 who got rejected and I was accepted with a 3.89 external. So it’s a mixture of the two. The third most important thing is letter of recommendation. Make sure you take good care of one of your teachers, preferably a math or accounting one. Lastly, being on the deans list or something of that sort or having a really high SAT score might stand out…but that’s the last factor. oh i forgot if i wrote any essays but if there are any, they also count but not more than GPA. Try your best. If you still fail, you shouldn’t be able to say I coulda done better.

Source: Paraphrased words of different Admission counselors @ UT for McCombs. i m pretty sure the standards haven’t changed much.

@Nxt, did that 4.0 not have all the indicator courses? Now, you have to have them all completed. Do you know about ECs? And I’ve heard that things beside GPA are really only looked at if you and someone else has the same GPA and are competing for 1 spot. Is that true?

UT has a great 5-yr program combining Econ and Accounting… You can sit for the CPA after you are through…

@JammyD that 4.0 did NOT had most of the indicator courses but some of them…which i am pretty sure is why he was rejected. If there are two candidates with the same GPA and all indicator courses, the one with a better letter of rec. or extra circulars or essay would be given the spot. The maturity level, the well rounded person, motivated student is what they are looking for…best and brightest. If that somehow conveys to them especially in your essay or letter of rec, you have a better chance.

My accounting professor made me a copy of the letter of rec that she wrote up and it was just astonishing to see what difference a letter of rec could really make.

Extra circulars also matter just as much as those two…essay and letter of rec…If you have volunteered somewhere or done something entrepreneurial or attempted to start your own business and failed, MENTION that…they want to see what you were doing in your free time besides getting your grades straight.

GPA & indicator courses is like your steak and essays letter of rec and EC are like the side items…to put it more visually.

well first semester I had a tough time adjusting to college and partied too much, got a 3.25 but a 4.0 going into finals. My HS GPA was 3.97 but I wanted to do econ, now I’m interested in double majoring. I’m very confident I’ll get a 4.0 next semester. If i take 15 hours it’ll make my cumulative 3.67, if I take 12 it’ll make it 3.62. Competitive? And I’ve heard it’s solely about GPA.

and I’m getting credit from Calc 1/2 from community colleges so math teachers aren’t a option. Maybe an econ teacher? Macro or Micro for letter of rec?

You can double major, as long as both majors aren’t in McCombs.
