Business Economics vs. Business Major?

What's the difference? What's good? What's bad?

I'm applying to like 5 UCs but aside from UCB, they all have a Business Economics major instead of a real business school, so what's up with that? Is my education going to suck if I take the "fake" major?

In my view a BA in business is not a particularly useful degree, at least not much more useful than other undergraduate fields. It's not like you are getting an MBA, which is the real business degree. Unless you want to major in something like accounting, which is a field all its own, a degree in business economics should be just as useful as one in business, if business is where you are headed.

cal econ = haas rejects
all the other schools = cal rejects

As an addendum, Econ at Cal is /not/ a "Haas reject" major. I don't understand why people propogate this myth. At any rate- from what I've heard, Economics is more of a theoretical view of business, whereas business is more of a hands on type of major. It really only depends on what you want to do: learn the theories behind the system, or jump into it.

Personally, I think Econ is more useful as a springboard into the world, although the classes themselves are apparently more difficult than Haas. ALthough that, again, is hearsay.
