business/engineering double major for a transfer student with a liberal arts bent?

Sorry, I know it's a lot of requirements. I'd be willing to sacrifice on some--for example, a strong econ program instead of a business school is fine (although I would prefer a business school), and I can give up the liberal curriculum. However, I'm trying to figure out what schools would be best. So far I'm thinking about:

berkeley
carnegie mellon (not liberal arts, but I have several close friends there)
northwestern
umich (good business and engineering programs, but I'm not especially fond of the large state schools--especially since that's the type of school I'm trying to transfer out of)

school ranking/prestige is somewhat important to me, since recruiters often utilize that, but I'd definitely be willing to sacrifice on that, since honestly I'd rather just be happy at college. Although if you recommend a community college in wyoming...then I might pass. Right now I'm at a large state school with top 30 or 40 programs in business in engineering.

I'll probably finish up my first semester here with a 3.7+ GPA, unless something goes horribly wrong. My SATS were 2210, my high school gpa was 3.56 uw, and I had many ecs, but they were varied and not that impressive. My ECs at college will probably just be an internship with a grassroots-type organization, and maybe engineers without borders. My recs will probably be okay or good, since my professors aren't the best--I'm in large lecture classes, and I go to office hours, but they seem more concerned with finishing up their own work. At least they know my name, though.

I've got a bit of a sob story, which I won't go into detail about here, but will definitely be mentioned on the app (not because I'm trying to grub for points with adcoms--I was really affected negatively by these several issues, and I want them to know how I'm using my experiences to my advantage now). I really appreciate any and all help, since I'm a little lost right now. Thanks!

anyone? I know it's difficult to get into some of those schools as a transfer, so if anyone has suggestions on other schools that are more transfer-friendly too, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Bucknell seems like a good choice. It's a top LAC (University actually) with a top ranked engineering college and a business school. It has some very well known alumni and a beautiful campus. It is located, however, in a very small quaint town not very close to a big city.

Thanks for your suggestion, morrismm! It's actually rather interesting that you suggested Bucknell--it never would have occurred to me, even though my mom has a good connection to someone important in the office of admissions, which will hopefully help me out somewhat. Thanks again!

Hopefully that connection at Bucknell is REALLY good! There are a handful of majors that are "Closed" to transfer students, and that particular major is one of them. You may want to be in touch with them soon.

Hmm, didn't know that--my connection actually probably is that good, but they're closed to transfers for a reason, and I don't feel like having to do five years instead of four, so I'll probably pass. Thanks for tipping me off to that!
